I'm not going to freak out about this weekend in baseball...

...because sometimes you just play like crap.
All I'll say is that if this team can't win more than half their games in the SEC and host a regional, Mainieri will have had lots of time to demonstrate he can sustain LSU baseball at a level befitting its tradition and resources and yet failed to do so.
There are lots of very good baseball coaches out there who would crawl to Baton Rouge to take hold of this program. Paul has shown he's capable of winning here in the right circumstances, but he's got no excuses. Win or be replaced.
It's that simple.

He's been a victim to the mlb draft. I don't know if i can blame him for that or not. Vandy and Florida are landing their top round draft guys.

Every team is different, and I know they should play better. No excuses with those games, but give the kids some time to get used to their new roles.

He won with Smoke's role players. The key contributions (outside of Coleman) came from Mainieri's guys.

Oh yeah, I mixed up the recruiting classes. There were a lot more contributions from Smoke's last class than I accounted for.

Hitting comes and goes; pitching, generally, doesn't.
With any decent showing at the plate Saturday, it would have been a series win. Last year we crushed the ball OOC and didn't do as well in conference. Hopefully we'll see some better pitchers OOC this year, figure some things out, and have it together by conference.
It's way too early to tell, people. The year we won 23 straight wasn't a pretty start either. Just sit back, enjoy the weather, look at the positives, and let the chips fall as conference gets closer and eventually starts.

The team will be fine, I think, if 2 of the 4 guys out of Foster, Moore, Fields, & Powell, have really good seasons.

I agree with you Doc and I think 2 of these guys will have really good seasons. I am glad you decided to stick around for baseball. We need voices of reason on here, especially when things are not going well.

If you look at the situation from the perspective of just having a big "hole" in recruiting from 2010 that is only getting mended very slowly, then things look alright--especially when you consider we might have a really good new group this spring.
The troubling aspect of it is wondering why the new guys, besides Yocom, haven't been able to work their way into the regular lineup on a team that's not returning a lot of good hitters. I really didn't expect to see Slaid & Snikeris playing this season.

I know what you are saying, but it is still so early. I think we've already seen that Moore is the backup catcher and not JS, even though JS was listed as backup catcher. Somebody out of Moore, Powell and Foster will step up IMO.
