Tailgate at WV. Guy who lived in Maryland tailgated with us. Was in the catering business. He brought a few dozen . Tremendous. Name of the catering company escapes me.

Not traditional but the grilled/seared one at Le Creole should make the list of top ones.

Other than that it is fried crab, only thing that makes one bad is too little crab and too much filler.

I have been in search of one for years. There was a guy at an oil company's fishing rodeo that I was invited to that made the most awesome ones I ever ever eaten. I wish I could remember what kind of sauce he used. I have been sorely disappointed in any one I have eaten since.

I never had them myself, but La Thai is supposed to have some great ones.

Grunning's "Crab Cake Sandwich", which is a broiled ball o' crab served on a buttered bun. Could have them for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Only problem, it's in Maryland

Funny thing is, it is probably a LA crab.

Appetizer at Mr. John's Steakhouse on St. Charles....

They bring that thing out sizzling and it melts in your mouth...

I keep hearing on this board how awesome those are at Le Creole. I don't why I haven't had them yet.

I had some awesome crab cakes at Jones Creek Cafe a couple of years ago, and when I tried to order them again all they had were the fries & coke kinda crab cakes.

I buy a few of the frozen 2 in a pack crab cakes from Chris Specialty Meat to keep on hand, and those are pretty tasty.

There's no I in me.

Mr. Johns and LeCreole have to be at the top of any Louisiana list. There is a little dive in Lake Charles called Crab Palace that used to serve what they called stuffed crabs that were a pile of fresh crabmeat and seasoning swimming in butter in those little aluminum crab shells. Yum.

Stuffed crabs are some very tasty eating. They are not a common menu item in restaurants unfortunately.

I love stuffed crabs, but so many restaurants make them with way too much breading. There was a restaurant which served them at lunch with big chunks of crabmeat and a sort of bechemel sauce drizzled over the top of them. They are still the best I've ever had. I can't recall the name of the restaurant, but I don't think it's around anymore.

The sauce was most probably a mornay or veloute.

Houmas House has a killer spicy mango (or is it papaya?) crabcake.
