Opinions?

I'm currently looking at a Thunder .380 for use once I get my CCP. Real lightweight and slender and .380 is a pretty good caliber for concealed carry.

I like mine. It's a little heavy for its size imo. Very reliable and accurate as long as the barrel is cool. Rapid fire will cause 6" groups at 10'.

I am familiar with that pistol but don't have any personal experience with it. I know a coworker who has one and has no complaints.

Personally I would not choose that weapon. There are just too many better alternatives both in better firearms and better calibers. The .380 caliber is not an ideal self defense round and lacks the knockdown of the larger calibers.

You can find equally compact pistols in the 9mm caliber which is a much superior round than the .380. The .38 caliber would also be a better choice if you want to look at some airweight revolvers for concealment.

Bottomline is that it's your life and I would recommend shopping around for a better weapon and caliber IMO.

Look into a Kahr cm9 its the same size and it might even be lighter and is a 9mm.

I've heard mostly good about Bersa's. I tend to agree with Who Me about the 380 though. For guns of similar size to the Bersa you can find something in 9mm. I carry either a Glock 26 or 19 almost daily and never have trouble concealing them.

All good advice here.

But I will say that how it feels to you is the most important factor. Sure, a 9mm or even .40 cal will provide more knockdown power. But none of that means shite if you can't put the rounds where they need to go. If the Bersa feels good to you and you're most accurate with it, then forget that it's a .380 - you've just found your firearm.

Also, theyve come a long way with ballistics technology. A hollow point home-defense style .380 round will do plenty of damage if shot accurately.

In terms of the gun itself though, it's not bad at all. It's on the cheaper side but I have seen plenty perform very well considering the price range.

If you can afford it, take a look at some of the Kahr's

Their guns are frickin awesome for conceal carry. That's pretty much all their focus is.

I own one and it seems to be a fine little gun. Like others have said though you can carry a G26 and have a hotter round with more capacity in the clipazine for the same size/weight. Plus .380 ammo can be hard to come by at times. Extra magazines for the Bersa will be harder to find plus more $ than the Glock.

I like a 380 for cc. That caliber paired w Hornady Critical Defense ammo will put a hurting on a mf'er.

I bought the Bersa Thunder cc for my wife. It's a pretty nice gun. Good deal for the price. However I'm planning on trading it in soon to get her a revolver; she doesn't practice enough for a semi- auto.

I like the .380 as a self defense cartridge. I dont plan on engaging in gun fights across the parking lot with it. The gun is for when the threat gets too close to escape from. As fas as the bersa mags I picked up a couple from Academy when I bought mine. I wanna say in the 10-12 dollar range.

For some reason my .357 doesn't like this stuff at all. Couldn't hit a house with it.

I talked to the Police Officers that run the range open to the public on Saturdays. They said they have had more issues with the Bersa than all the other guns combined. Just my 2cents.

If you would see the group I shot this weekend with that exact same gun you'd be impressed, I was! Not at my shooting, but at the accuracy of that Bersa 380! Impressive as hell!!!! 6 shots touching same hole! Dont know how far, but it was all the way back at precision off Siegen!

If you give the barrel time to cool off between shots it really is quite accurate. I burned through a mag as fast as I could get my sites back on target and it would walk all around the target. With a cool barrel I could shoot the center out of the o's in the Moog sticker on that fridge door.

I had a Bersa, but it just wasn't reliable. It would fail to cycle about every 5th shot.

I sold it.

Alot of people talk about "knockdown power" when talking about handguns but I've been shot four times with a .40 cal and even it failed to put me on the ground; mainly because the shooter couldn't hit me in a vital area even from 5 feet away.

Personally, I'd rather sacrifice power for accuracy and less recoil. A well-aimed shot to the head or chest will put someone down regardless of caliber.

I went ahead and bought the Bersa, it was only $225. I previously owned a Glock G33 (.357 Subcompact) and it was just too heavy and had too much kick for such a small pistol. Not to mention it was nearly $400 more than what I paid for the Bersa.

Thanks to everyone for their opinions.

shite I remember that thread from the ot I think. Crazy stuff man.

I feel confident the 380 with well placed shots will drop anyone. I haven't shot anyone with them but the critical defense ammo has great performance reviews.

I once owned a bersa 380. I would get FTF all the time seemed to be a clip issue. I think back to why I purchased it and it was because of cost, buying cheap guns gets old fast.

Although to late to have any impact on the OP's decision, I'll go ahead and jump in here anyway.

Although I don't have a Bersa, from what I've read they seem to generally have a good reputation and seem to be a good buy.

OTOH, I wouldn't personally buy the gun in question. Yes, the 380 is better than nothing, but my 380 is my personal last choice for cc; I only carry it when I'm unable to carry something else that's a better self-defense round. In addition, to me the 380 is best used as a pocket gun. This Bersa is too big to comfortably pocket carry. If I'm going to cc a gun on on my belt, it's going to be something bigger than the 380. For a gun roughly the same size/weight as the Bersa, one could get a single stack in 9 mm, 40 S&W or even 45 ACP.

I hope you're pleased w/ your Bersa.

Love the Bersa. Picked one up on a whim for $200 and it's one of my favorite handguns to shoot. Points well for me and groups well to. As for the hot barrel issue, the only time that would matter would be if you got mugged at the range after mag dumping 20 rounds. Just like with a hunting rifle, your first and most critical shot is coming out of a cold bore.
