Friends from DFW coming to town Saturday, want to do lunch. They want some cajun, home style cooking. Maybe some place that has a good plate lunch.

Landry's, off the corner of Ambassador Caffrey and Cameron.

haven't been to the lafayette location but cochon would probably be an option (no plate lunch)

Cajun, homestyle cooking, plate lunches...try Dwights on Johnston-don't know if they are open on Sundays. T-Coons-also don't know if they are open on Sundays. But those are two places that fall into your criteria.

Poor Boy's Riverside doesn't really fit all of your criteria, but it has a large menu and is a good representation of Cajun cuisine. You might want to look at the menu.

I don't recommend the Blue Dog.

I had a good plate lunch at Dwight's a while back, but do check to see if they're open on Sunday.

OP seems to indicate Saturday. Dwights is open on Saturday.

Many places recommended in these posts do not have the plate lunch scenerio.

Glenda's Creole Kitchen

It's a few minutes away, but you could toss in the "Anthony Bourdain's filmed here" for a bit of luster.

Go to Poches in Breaux Bridge they have plate lunches. Crawfish etouffee, pork backbone stew (both served daily) fried seafood, lots of sides to choose from. It wont disappoint, plus they have a meat market to sample boudin and cracklins

Dwights is open on Sunday, but they do BBQ only (pretty sure only).....But its a good old fashioned Cajun BBQ (not that Tx crap).

Johnson's has the best BBQ and boudin in town.

Also, boiled crawfish is always a good option.

Here's a link to some plate lunch places in Lafayette. I've been to Ruby's and it was good but that was awhile back. Dwyer's downtown has home cooking stuff, I like the chicken fried steak. Can't go wrong with Dwights. I haven't been on a Saturday, I usually get the BBQ on Sunday.

Wow! Everyone has been so helpful! Leaning towards Glenda's or Poche's. The couple from DFW is going to Houston, but via Lafayette to get sausage and boudin! Maybe show em a little Cajun country on the waY to lunch.
