Vinny Curry, DE, Marshall
Bruce Irvin, DE, West Virginia
Josh Chapman, DT, Alabama

These would be welcome by me!

I think Martin would have been a good 2nd pic for us.

Don't really care about this too much. Granted, my understanding of the condition is very limited, but with Clark, it really only seems to affect him in Denver. If that's the case, not a factor IMO. If Denver was in our division, that would be a different story.

In any other year I would agree with you as well but because of how the events of this offseason has transpired so far, I feel a bit differently in this situation.

Think about it for a second. Depending on the player suspensions & the date of this season's game at Denver, the defense may be short handed already. That would make for a all available hands on deck scenerio as to where all available defensive personnel will be used.

Don't forget the element of Denver's thin air as well. There will be a need for a heavy rotation along the defensive line because those big guys will be gassed if they are required to take too many snaps. Having a player on this year's defense who could possibily have to miss a game that has nothing to due with the "bounty" suspensions isn't a luxury that the 2012 Saints team can't afford.

Definitely gone by #90

Meaning when we still had a 2nd round pick, Martin would have been a good 2nd pick for us in the 3rd round? So are you saying that you agree Martin is now a good target with our first pick (in the third round)?

Your post confuses me.

I get your point, and I think it's valid.

I'm also just not very sold on Johnson. So I'm hoping we draft someone else.

What about Mike Martin, DT out of Michigan? He's got a 2-3 round grade with most reports I've read.

Martin seems like the prototypical NT in a 3-4 rather then a DT in a 4-3. Martin is very strong & plays with good leverage but really lacks quickness & is limited in his lateral movements.

With the Steelers having to part ways with Casey Hampton, I can see a player like Martin being high on their wish list & him excelling in their scheme eating up double teams.

I really like the thoughts of taking Irvin as well even with his latest incident. Loomis could just get him into some AA classes & he may be ok but on the other hand NOLA may not be a good fit for someone who could have alcohol problems. He definitely would feel right at home though.

I'm with you there man.

From all the highlights I have seen of Johnson, he does have a high motor but he lacks elite speed coming off of the edge. The team already has two DE's who fit that mold in Smith & Jordan, so why add another?

Can David play WLB? If so he would be a nice compliment to Lofton.

David would be the WLB in this defense, yes. We can only hope that he would still be available by the third round but don't count on it. He would bring much needed speed to that position.

Lavonte David? Will likely be gone in the second round.

Blues - I think maybe we just need a new thread. The earlier posts are confusing people.

Now this guy is really intriguing. During his combine workouts, he showed tight hips which will limit his ability to quickly change directions trying to cover smaller, quicker receivers especially in the slot.

On the other hand though, his workouts & highlight films shows someone who has excellent ball skills. Mike Mayock projects Johnson to be a safety in the NFL. His combination of size, speed & ball hawking ability would make him an outstanding safety, imo.

I love to see Johnson in Black & Gold as a possible future replacement for Roman Harper who we all know has his issues in coverage. With the explosion at the tight end position across the league, I believe Johnson provides the type of athlete who can match up well with pass catching tight ends. Teaming him up with Malcolm Jenkins could potentially allow the Saints defense to have the best tandem of any back end in the league.

If only we had more picks.

agree, will get some fresh 3rd Rd excitement going this week

I just wanted to close the #59 look out with those that might still be possible a round later

Concerning someone like TE Green... the later ya get into the draft the more pure value trumps needs. Down to the 3rd Rd I think it could be any position- just the best player on the board. The only ones I'd rule out are QB & RB. OT not very likely either unless it was an outstanding value.

I reviewed the past 3 yrs in the THRILLHO After Loomis... thread. The FO is extremely big on BPA. We've been pretty fortunate in many cases to match it up with need at the same time tho.

I like Ronnell Lewis if he would fall that far. I like Irvin too, but he is more of a project

Saw him at a Senior Bowl practice a few months ago. His effort really stood out to me, he didn't seem to take any plays off. Didn't notice him getting knocked off balance that much. In the one-on-one drills he mainly faced the Ohio St. center(Brewster) who he was familiar with.

What happened to Zach Brown, the LB from North Carolina? About a month or so ago, he was pegged as a top 20 pick and now I rarely even see him in the first round.
