since my buddy is having luck (kinda) with his curs, I am thinking about starting to get back in it.
problem is i have three big dogs now. wife does not want another big dog. this is what i have.
1) american bulldog. she is a my "lap" dog but good with hogs
2) yellow lab. was a stray i picked up but best all around dog i have.
3) redbone coonhound. wife's dog and i hate that bitch. good blood trailing dog but i want to shoot her.
what would be a good, small, and indoor breed i could get for squirrells? i have been thinking about a jack russell or a feist. ya'll give me ideas.

thats the route i am going. i think.
i want a tough little dog that can holds it's own but a decent indoor dog. i will admit, i know nothing about small shiteaters. i have only had big dogs my whole life.

My ole man has had many different breeds.... His last 3 Jack Russell terriers have been by far the best.
Get them young and u can keep them from being hyper.
Great squirrel dogs. Everyday he fishes for sacalait.... Dog is in the boat with him - watching the banks for squirrels. Not only very smart dogs.... Very loyal. Truely his best friend.

Weiner dogs are good inside dogs and we're originally bred for hunting. With a little training, one would chase squirrels all day.

do you hunt with them?
like i said, i have only had big dogs. i do need an indoor dog. i will just have to tell wife it was a stray i rescued.

yeah, I hunted with the older one...the younger one I got is a mini and she is scared of her own shadow so I never brought her hunting

thanks for all the ideas.
i started out years ago with hounds. i have learned in my older years that i do not like the way hounds hunt.
now days i like the way a cur or terrier hunts. most people i know now hunt with curs.
i will be looking in classifieds for terriers in the area.

quote:Had a couple. Great dogs for a family, plus they will tree well. Need to watch out for gun shyness, though.

my BMC was hard to break of that. she would bay a hog with best of them but guns scared the hell out of her. she did get better over time.
you got to start that out at a young age.

Cajun Squirrel Dog. Had one a few years ago...lost him in a divorce. Great hunting dog. There is a guy on I49 around Opelousas that breeds and sells them. Very loyal and smart dogs. Fast as lightning. I had a black one. He looked kinda like a small lab.
