What does AMU hope this hire will do for them moving into the SEC?

Not sure I would support Sumlin if I had an Ag-tag

Thought process -

We won't be the best defensive team in the SEC. So get an offensive coach and recruit the Texas speed. Texas doesn't pump out DL and ILBs to fit the SEC mold. Do what we do and do it well, so to speak.

We will try and have a great D but would not be wise to get a defensive minded coach to take away what we are already doing well.

Recruiting. Most of our current commits openly want Sumlin. If they want him I'm sure other Texas recruits want him. He also recruited Adrian Peterson to OU. Get our talent level up is paramount.

So, me and my Ag Tag are fine with Sumlin. Especially if we keep DeRuyter and hire Larry Porter to recruit JuCo and Louisiana DL

There is no thought process, shut up. We interviewed a lot but it meant nothing. The idiots in charge are making the same decisions as always. This will end piss poor and we will endure several humiliating seasons.

That's how I'd see it if I were an Aggie. aTm is not going to out SEC the SEC right now. I think it's a better strategy to try to do something different and do it well, such as a wide open offense.

Also, who would have been a better hire? Maybe the haters wanted to lure away someone from a bigger school, like Saban from Mich State or Miles from OK State, but those hires don't come along that often. And U of H isn't FCS, either. He obviously had that program going up. Trying to catch a coach on the rise of his career before he gets too big to consider a team like aTm is like trying to catch lightening in a bottle.

All things considered, I think this is a solid hire.

Are you seven years old? You sound like you're throwing a serious tantrum over there. Spare me the "sorry if I'm tired of the same old" BS. You can express your opinions without being such a whiny little prick. Stop embarassing us.

He is entitled to his opinion, and he is not way off, but I agree with you that there is no thought process. They had this guy pegged and the other "interviews" was a farce, just like with the "national search" before the good-ole-boy system hired Mike Sherman.

It's pathetic, and we will not recover.

Roll Tide.

Better hope they get a great DC. They're going to learn quick a wide open offense is only going to work on the bottom end of the SEC.

I always like to say, defense wins championships because they're always ahead of a offense. They have the opportunity to score like offense too. Any mediocre offense can score if they're getting short fields.

defense>>>>offense

That is why SEC is a defensive conference. A great defense can do more than a great offense.

I read because you had an Ag-tag and it's mandatory.

I was not convinced with everything to the right of it, however.

And listen to this Tiger. He knows.

It's depressing at times being a Razorback knowing you can play with anyone... except those who know how to stop you. And lest you roll eyes at that, remember AMU is 0-3 vs. that 'O So Great O with our 'O So Spare D.

I hope we retain our DC along with the LB coaches and the DL coach. We need a new DB coach. McMillain has to go.

On offense I would like to see OL coach Turner retained. I'm fine with Sumlin bringing Kliff Kingsbury as his QB coach from UH. I would kill for Larry Porter as RB coach. Still need a WR coach, an OC and the GAs

You think Sumlin retains DeRuyter?

I'm not saying they're suddenly going to be the #3 team in the West with that approach. I'm saying this gives them the best chance to compete in the near term.

I look at it like this - who would you rather be: MSU or Arkansas? They will need some D if they ever want to win the division, but that's not a realistic goal right now. Right now, they are trying to avoid a level of embarrassment that will hurt recruiting.
