I have a 2008 Durango that has a roof rack but it doesn't have cross bars. I just got an Ascend Kayak and need a way to transport it. It seems like all of the carriers have to be mounted to the cross bars and Dodge wants $250 for just the crossbars. Any other suggestions?

Ebay is your friend. Locking ones for $65 shipped. There are other ones out there. Obviously you still need a kayak rack to put on it. I'd get the one that stands it up on it's side, encase you get another one.

Welcome to Team Ascend. Although as a "Team" we suck about getting together and fishing.

You and I are the only exception. Everyone else is obviously kayak poseurs. Still want to get all the yakkers from the OB together one day to fish.

i'm thinking i'm going to have to just buy the damn rails from the dealer. i did a "fit my car" on the yakima site and it was just as much, if not more to buy their system.

i'm in baton rouge, but i'm hoping to haul the kayak back and forth to perdido, AL quite often for shark/bay fishing. so i want something i can count on to hold it down while traveling.

i think we might get another one soon so that also factors into the rack decision.

Check NRS's website. They have some gutter mounts that may fit in your rain gutters (if a Durango has them) and would probably be cheaper than buying factory crossbars.

Looks like I'm moving to the NOLA area and if I do I plan on getting a yak asap. Can I email you when the time comes?

Sweet....I've already checked out the Ascend. I love to fish and if I'm moving here I'm damn sure not going to sit around with all this great fishing around.

eta...ready to shoot some hogs and some corn fed deer too

What is bringing you to LA, or are you originally from here? What part of the NW are you now?

Two completely different sides of the world.

My mom is, as well as that whole side of the family. I'm a navy brat but lived on the westbank for 5 years when I was a kid. Moved in 1985 and spent the rest of my life between Oregon and Washington.

I live in Portland but I'm actually on the northshore right now and have been for over a week.
