What is it really going to take for Mathieu to win the Heisman?

How many more forced fumbles, dynamic defensive plays, or punt returns for TD's will it take to beat out the competition?

At a minimum both a punt return and int return for TD's against Alabama.

He has a chance if he has a huge game at Alabama.

And by huge I mean a defensive TD, and preferably one at a crucial point in the game.

Realistically, there's nothing he can do to win the Heisman. It'll probably be Andrew Luck.

I'll be impressed if he is just in NYC

2 or 3 INT's for TD's and 2 or 3 punt returns for TD's. At least.

He needs a few heisman moments on tv. Pick 6, punt return for td or the sack fumble td. And then some. Not sure he will have enough stats.

Yeah it's unlikely, but a timely defensive/ST touchdown against Bama + Stanford losing to Oregon would vault Mathieu into the realistic possibilities

He must average 2 turnovers per game against ranked opponents and lead the #1 team in tackles.

Obviously, some of these must get constant highlight reel coverage on ESPN.

It would not hurt if...
1. LaMichael James of Oregon could come back to split west-coast votes with Andrew Luck.
2. Trent Richardson has a poor game against LSU.

Some kind of gamechanging play against Bama and another few returns from punts or INTs.

considering all of these 2:30 CBS games, he has a shot, but I agree, something dynamic in the Alabama game will really give him a chance. The QB's he is up against this year (OU, Stanford, Baylor) are very good.

Woodson's win was a fluke.

He made 3 huge plays,
that basically single-handedly won the game,
against a bitter rival,
in the last game of the season,
in primetime television,
in the biggest game of the year,
the week before ballots were cast.

TM7 would have to get a turnover and defensive touchdown in every single game from here on out,
Plus, have some special teams TD's,
And, have a lifetime game against Bama and Arky.

It's not impossible, but it's virtually impossible.

He's already got nearly as many "defensive" stats as Woodson had when he won it, other than interceptions. A couple more "dynamic" returns, be they interceptions or punts, for touchdowns will certainly go a long way.

With the way Arky chucks it around I don't doubt he'll get some stats.
And you know Les is going to have something special for Bama.
