I did a little research on LSU's defense in the second half, particularly in the 3rd quarter, after half time adjustments. I'm pretty excited with what I've found. Oh, and if this has already been posted or discussed, my bad.

Let's take a look at 3rd quarter yards:
Oregon - 9
Nw St - 15
Miss St - 11
WVU - 220
Kentucky - 26
Florida - 71
Tenn - 40
Auburn - 40
Bama - 33
WKU - 50

We are giving up an average of 51.5 yards in the third quarter this season.

Florida had a 65-yard TD in the 3rd quarter when Mo fell down. Otherwise, only WVU and WKU gain more than 40 yards against us in the third quarter... and we played a soft zone and got beat on a couple of plays the WVU game. Take away the WVU game and we are giving up an average of 27 yards each third quarter.

I think it's a testament to our strong coaching staff and our halftime adjustments. I suspect it will continue throughout the season.

I'll continue to update this thread throughout the season.

Guess it takes them a half to warm up.

adjustments have been really good + we always get the ball to start the 2nd and our offense, by design, eats up a lot of clock

these stats tell me: we A. have a guy who can make the proper adjustments at half, and B. we have the personnel to execute it.

great stats, amazing defense!!

The number of 3 and outs the LSU Defense produces is insane.

Amazing to have an opponent go into the locker room with the score close at half, make their own adjustments, and then come out and have the Tigers blow them to shreds!

Great post, Wideman---now I'll have to steal it!

I looked at NCAA stats yesterday and noticed another odd thing.
We are ranked very high in almost every category as a team. But we don't have many players ranked as individuals. That tells me a lot of players rotating in with equal results.

Time of possession for those quarters:

LSU - 32
Opponents - 13

A lot of it has to do with like someone else said, we always get the ball to start the second half and our offense eats clock.

This can't be true.

Les Miles and John Chavis don't know how to adjust.

9 yards allowed in a quarter vs Oregon and 11 yards allowed against Miss St is incredible.

Time of possession isn't only a stat for offensive praise, yes our offense holds the ball a while but the 3 and outs that our defense has produced in the second half has been remarkable.

I was wondering about the stats after halftime. It shows that after we see what the other team is doing our coaches fine tune the defense.

Incredible!

Partner that with the longest play that LSU has given up is 25 yards on the fake punt by NWSt. Since that technically wasn't against our defense, the next longest is a 22 yd pass in garbage time against Miss St.

Unreal stats so far. Hope it continues!
