Went to Joe's Crab Shack today...

After we ate our really shitty food, the waitress brings our checks (3 of us) and says she's going to run them through one at a time to avoid making a mistake. After we all get our tickets, we realize, after all that, she did make a mistake. She switched my check with my friend's, which was 17 bucks more expensive. We bring it to her attention and then the manager comes out and says "So basically I can run this back through, but both charges will be on your card for 48-72 hours until the bank erases it, or you can just settle it amongst yourselves and leave less work for me to do." Of course he obviously kept putting emphasis on the second option, which is what we wound up doing. I believe this will be the last time I go there

It was my buddy's idea; he really wanted crab. I have only been there once in my life a long time ago so I didn't know better than to say no way.

It's not awful. It's just a chain. The food is average and it's got that kitschy feel without being authentic. If you've spent any time at all on the Gulf Coast you've had much better.

I went there once, many years back. I walked in, saw the waiters on tables doing the Macarena and immediately turned around and walked out. Haven't gone back since.

What about the steamed crab? Is that any good? I've never had it but I know a friend who is a waitress there that can get us food for like half off...
It's kind of like Red Lobster in the sense that the lobster has to be decent if it's steamed and fresh...right?

been one time. i ordered the coconut shrimp. when it came out it was fried shrimp with shaved coconut on top.

I went once to the one in Galveston and liked it....of course I was like 8 years old. I may go check the one on siegen out soon just to see if it is really as bad as reported.

Mr. Grits suggested Joe's Crab Shack for one of our first dates. It could have been our last date, if he hadn't loved LSU football so much.

My one trip was awful. The boiled crabs were hollow. I'm not kidding, they were almost completely empty.
Plus the waiter kept harassing me to get up on the table and dance because it was my birthday.
I refused so at some point he put a bucket on my head.
Needless to say I have trashed the place any chance I get.

JCS (chain category) is almost the worst restaurant in BR I have ever been to, Boutin's (non-chain category) can give them the runs for the money.
JCS's chewy inedible fried catfish vs. Boutin's solid stuffed crab. I don't mean good "solid", I mean it was so hard and overcooked there was no edible portion.
JCS's dancing wait people who will put down a hot plate of hot food to do the macarena vs. Boutin's surly, rude, ignorant (to the question 'what comes with that?' the answer was 'how am I supposed to know') wait staff.
These places made me impose a rule, I will join no organization, no matter how potentially profitable to my business, that meets at an awful restaurant.
