Finally my turn - I bought a pair of 1911 Kimbers for my sons a few years ago and now I want to get one for myself. I used to think the Kimber was the best 1911 - but I am wondering about the Gold Cup or the new Remington 1911's. Any comments or recomendations you care to share?

Try the ruger so we'll know somebody who got one. Ruger makes good shite and I wanna know how the 1911 is.

I'd let that Ruger get some years on it before I jumped on it. IMHO there are better options out there for the money then Kimber. Colt and Springfield are couple I would look at. Do your homework and look at a lot of pistols.

If you have the money Les Baer, Wilson Combat, etc.....

rugers are getting pretty good reports for being high value. Smith and wesson makes some pretty high value ones as well. Springfields, kimbers, sigs are all very good.

I did a lot of research about 1911´s before I bought mine 4 years ago and I settled on a Sig 1911 as the best value for the money. But you really do not hear much about them. You can get them for around $900 and they have all of the features that the custom guns have plus the legendary Sig quality. I have had no issues with mine and absolutely love it.

Some guys will argue that it is not a true 1911 because it has an external extractor versus the internal extractor of the original design. I see that as an improvement and could care less, but to each his own.

Whatever you decide, do some research and if possible shot a few to see which ones you like.

The show, Handguns, pushes Nighthawk pretty hard. I have no personal experience.

I like the Springfields for the money, but I think there are some better ones out there if money isn't an option.

Springfield is a very good option for the money. I have considered picking one up but believe I will wait and go all out.

I am partial to a basic Springfield but that's because I don't want a full size. I want the mid-sized gun.

For the price Springfield is hard to beat. I wasn't aware that Ruger has one now though.

You can also send your Springfield, Kimber, ect in to Wilson and let them upgrade the weapon. For example I would hit a Kimber with:

1. Wilson Combat Pyramid Tritium sights

2. Trigger job 4.5 lbs

3. Reliability Package

4. Bullet Proof slide stop

5. Wilson Speed Chute

6. Armor Tuff the whole thing in black (up to preference)

7. Bulletproof extractor

Some of my firearm instructor buddies have done the same and they have a sweet, sweet shooter.
