Cactus Leaves

Ran into the produce section of Wal-Mart(I never buy groceries at Wal Mart) the other day to grab a couple of bell peppers and saw cactus leaves. Has anyone here ever cooked cactus leaves and if so how are they prepared and what do they taste like?

Nopales. I'll occasionally impulse bought these from time to time. I've made tacos out of them and just added them to scrambled eggs. Theyre nothing special really. Really dosent have much flavor to it.

I've seen a recipe that used them in a green chili.

There are many ways to use prickly pear cactus....jams, salads or just cook and sprinkle with chili powder are some of the ways I've had it. I've never cooked it myself though.

Thanks for some answers. It kind of took me aback. I just don't see them as being a big seller in the big town of Crowley. Was curious if it was a new trend or if I was missing something really good. Had no idea how they would be used. My first thought was peyote -

Nopales is a Mexican thing, they're in pretty much every Latin grocery store.
I've had them before at a restaurant, I've never really gotten the fascination.
