Anyone gone on a chartered fishing trip before?

Looking to do one in about a month or two.
I want to know a few things, should we definitely go offshore? And if we do is there enough time to do that in a day trip?
I would also like to go out of Venice/Grand Isle area.
What am I looking at price wise for a group of about 6 people?
TIA Outdoor guys!

Cost wise, inshore is much less than offshore.

Yes go offshore! Its well worth it. Although make sure to take preventive seasickness medicine just in case. Your trip could be miserable with out it.
There are lots of good charters out of Venice/GI/Fourchon (best in the world)
Price would probably be 200-300 per person, bigger the group, cheaper the prices

Only been on one chartered trip out of Destin. It was ok, but I was in my early teens. We caught some trash fish. But good luck

Thanks...I would be going with some inexperienced people so I was thinking inshore might be a safer bet anyway.
Another thing...do the charters supply all the gear? Or do you need to bring your own poles and tackle etc?

Offshore on a charter boat is actually pretty easy and you could get into a good fight with a grouper/amberjack/cobia
They will provide EVERYTHING you need

If it were up to me, I would do offshore. I LOVE offshore fishing, been a few times and I don't ever seem to get motion sickness. I would definitely advise everyone else to do so though

Yikes!
I have a friend of a friend that supposedly does chartered trips, so I have to call him and see what he will offer.

They will supply all gear, but 3 people on an inshore boat would be about as many as you want to go with so with a group of 6 you would have to take 2 boats?

I know a few people who do offshore out of Venice and they are all really good.
James Peters
Scott Avenzanno
Troy Wetzel
They all consistently catch fish and run good operations.

Souldn't that depend on the size of the boat?
I guess inshore would be smaller (duh) so maybe offshore is better for a larger group?

All gear is provided. some charge extra for live bait. Expect to tip in addition to the trip.
Check into the size of the boats, the number of people allowed per boat.

I've gone both inshore and offshore. You can't go wrong as long as you got a good captain. Ask around whatever area you plan on going to and find out who is the best at what they do

I'll google these guys
That's good to know they supply everything! I have a couple poles but no heavy duty offshore gear!

Also if you have inexperienced fishermen, you will appreciate having 1 captain/boatsmate for every two guests. To help bait lines, land fish, and unhook fish.

If you really wanna catch fish and big fish, go on an overnight offshore trip. You'll catch as many blackfin as you want with a few yellas. Six of us went on an overnighter with Gray Long, was a blast and would highly recommend it.
Go Long Charters
I'd also recommend an overnighter going after swordfish. Try Pelagic Charters, they are the experts in that matter.
Pelagic Charters
Inshore charters can be fun but it's much tougher to replicate an offshore charter trip on your own.
Either way, have fun!

I'd say about half the people can do this, so we will be helping one another.
Or so I'd hope

Stewie, thanks so much for the links!!!!
Overnighter means what? You sleep on the boat or go back to the launch and sleep there, then go out again next day??
That's got to be pricey as hell too. I don't want to skimp on this but I'm also not looking to break the bank.
Frickin YUM

Awwww come on that was a semi-legit question
I was starting to completely love this board compared to the OT board.
