I read somewhere that Bama could after this season have as many as 27 spots open. I do not know if that is correct, but I know that we will try to sign a lot next yr as opposed to this yr. How many spots will LSu have available for 2012?

Technically can roll guys into last years class and then greyshirt some if we really wanted to take over 23 from 2012. I don't know which class ZM, KH, and AJ are going to count towards. I think they can count back, but I don't know all of those details.

LA isn't going to have copious amounts of excess talent in 2012.

The sanctions are not in place for the next class, so we are not restricted to 23. We should be able to take a full class of 25 or so. There won't be any way to count some back because we are at the max w/ this class

The state seems to always be loaded however LA is also known formless bloomers. Guys who were above average but under the radar I'm HS and then blow it up in college at a smaller school or perhaps a major Div1A program that took one of the kids as a project.

I do agree that classes that consists only of LA talent would not be wise if greater athletes from outside of LA wanted to come here. I'm surprised at some of
The kids that list LSU as an interest when they have never been to the state nor have any ties to the university.

NC and 10 win seasons do that plus LSU has developed a great game day tradition that is exciting. All of that was nearly ruined a couple of yrs ago but that was rectified this last yr and I look for a better team to face Alabama(who I think may have a better defense than 2009)this yr in Tuscaloosa. With kids now a days it is about who is in and LSU is still in nationally. Look at Oregon even before this yr when they were playing second fiddle to USC they still seemed to attract a lot of attention They just have "cool" factor about them.

Well, see we do it different at LSU than bama does. We figure out who's leaving and then make the number of takes in the next class match the vacancies. Saban decides which of the current holders of schollies haven't worked out and selects enough people in the new class to equal the number of seniors and early draftees plus the number he's replacing. Sort of NFL-style (replacing retirees and people who haven't performed well).

While Saban is FAR worse about this, let's not throw stones out of our glass house. We presently have 90 players on the roster or committed that are supposed to have a scholarship. WE can only have 83 after the Spring. So that means 7 folks will either be cut or asked to grey shirt.

I'm pretty sure we have only 15 seniors this year.

QB Jefferson
QB Lee
OG Dworaczyk
OG Blackwell
C Hebert
T Shaw
TE Peterson
TE Joseph
LS Russian

DE Adams
LB Baker
LB Francois
S Taylor
S Hatcher
DB Brooks

I could have missed somebody, I don't know.

We'll be in the 20's next year.
On the numbers issue the poster above is right on the money.LSU fans definitely shouldn't be bashing Saban and his "cutting" of players since we are doing the same thing this spring to get the 2011 class in.Pot meet kettle. It's part of the game now whether we as fans like it or not.At the end of the day we only care about the product on the field."Cut kids" will be forgotten when the season starts.

There's 16. You missed Bryant. But I would think that Russian and Bryant may not be around next year, so that would have an effect. But if we lose 15, we get those 2 roster spots back from the sanctions, so we'll have room for around 17 or so. Probably similar numbers to this year

That was for this year's class, not next year's

Bonjourno, you are correct. Per LSU:

"a reduction of initial scholarship recipients by two for the 2011-12 incoming class."

I mis-read that statement. We do get the full 25 scholarships next year.
