Kurt Warner: Big Ben is not a HOF QB even if he wins third SB

Was anybody listening to the SVP show when he said that? Warner flat out said that Big Ben hasn't proven himself to be able to carry a team and that he wasn't a HOFer even if he wins a third SB. I was pretty surprised to hearing those words from him but Warner has always been a straight shooter.

Edit: Here's an article going further in-depth about Warner's thoughts on Big Ben.

quote:

Even if Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger wins his third Super Bowl on Sunday with the Steelers, one former NFL MVP says that alone shouldn't make Roethlisberger a lock for the NFL Hall of Fame.

"I believe that this era has become about winning championships for a quarterback," former St. Louis Rams and Arizona Cardinasl quarterback Kurt Warner said in a radio interview. "But I just look at it from the fact that the best players to ever play this game belong in the Hall of Fame. And I'm not saying he won't be that guy. But I'm not sure he's there yet. I'm not sure if he just wins this game if that classifies him as one of the best to ever play the game."

Warner, who won Super Bowl XXXIV with the Rams, says he feels this way, in part, because Roethlisberger has never had to carry the Steelers on his own for long stretches of time.

"I'm just waiting to see Ben as the guy that carries his team at some point in time," Warner said. "The fortunate thing for him is he hasn't had to do that. He carries them in the last two minutes. He makes some key plays. (He's) phenomenal out of the pocket and ad-libbing. But for me, if you go to the Hall of Fame, you have to be a guy who can carry your team week in and week out as a quarterback. That's my opinion."

Warner also cited Roethlisberger's questionable statistics in some of his biggest games as another reason his credentials for the Hall of Fame aren't quite up to par.

"I like Ben," Warner said. "I think Ben's great and I think he's a winner. And to me that speaks volumes for your legacy. But when you're talking about the best quarterbacks in the league, you have to look at all the factors here. I mean, he won a Super Bowl and he was 8-23. But he won the Super Bowl and he gets that on his resume. But he was still 8-23."

I don't think Kurt Warner should make the HOF.

Lost 2 Super Bowls.

What's up with that?

3 rings and he is in. Period. Warner confuses the NFL HOF with the MLB HOF.

Are you honestly comparing a tight end with a QB? I was trying to think of a QB named Heath Miller when I read that.

If Miller goes on to amass stats do 3 rings help his cause?

KWarner is advising Aaron Rogers at present
( to throw the ball 50 times)

" Kurt the hurt" is a bitter man re SB XLIII The Cardinals did not lose they ran out of time. Seahawks did not lose they were cheated out of SB XL.

When the game is on the line Schaub would be my guy to make the game winning play over Big Ben.

Josh Wilson would love me a lot.

I wouldn't put him in if he retired after the season. But he is definitely in if he stays relatively healthy and puts up decent stats for the next handful of years.

He'll make the HOF because he had the good fortune of being a Pittsburgh Steeler, some guys hit the jackpot.

Not saying he does or doesn't belong in the HOF, but is anyone really making the argument that Ben can carry a team?

So what about Casey Hampton? James Harrison? Ike Taylor? These guys - in addition to Polamalu and Ward who are definite HoFers - all contributed significantly to the the Steelers last two Super Bowl runs and to this one.

Do you believe they should be in the HoF as well? I mean it's not like the Steelers had the number 3 scoring defense in 2005, the number 1 in 2008, and the number once scoring defense this year or anything.

Well yeah, he isnt a HoFer yet. Neither was Brady after his 3rd super bowl. Assuming he doesnt get hurt or rape anyone, Big Ben has a lot of time left to rack up the numbers required to go with the rings.
