Troy Calhoun

Interesting. I like it. Would obviously have to run a different offense.

A coach from a US Service academy going to the U? That makes NO SENSE at all.

Calhoun is a very good coach.

His background is not solely option offense. He has only done that offense at Air Force out of necessity. The fact that he was able to do that shows how good he is.

Miami is making a big mistake by not looking at any of the top up and coming young assistants like Gus Malzahn. Just because Larry Coker and Randy Shannon sucked doesn't mean assistant coaches can't handle the job.

Maybe. I'd much rather take a proven HC. The jump from assistant coach to HC is really big. Mahlzahn will probably need to take a lower level job and prove himself there, before he gets a crack at a top program.

Look at most of the recent successful hires - all of them had prior HC experience - Saban, Meyer, Carroll, Brown, Petrino, Chizik, Miles, Tressell, Dantonio.

Calhoun may not be flashy, but he would be a solid hire.

Calhoun was the OC for the texans. It's not as if he only knows running the option (although they do a great job on offense at AF). I think he'd make a great hire.

What the hell is Donna Shalala doing over there?!?! Not to say Calhoun isn't a good coach, but is that really what they are settling for now?

My list of coaching candidates if I were the Miami AD:

Dan Mullens
Gus Malzhan
Bobby Petrino
Al Golden
Pat Fitzgerald
Brady Hoke
Chris Peterson
Kevin Sumlin
Brent Venables
Don Treadwell

I'd take Calhoun over Malzhan, Hoke, Sumlin, Venables and Treadwell.

I thought that as I typed his name. For whatever reason, Mullens at Miami doesn't "feel" right, but Sumlin seems light the right hire.

I still wonder if Miami would be willing to take Butch Davis back. It's not like he's ever going back to the NFL and if he succeeded at Miami, he wouldn't leave them for anyone else. He's a coach who ran a clean program there, made one of the most dominant teams in college football history, has plenty of contacts and familiarity with the school, has head coaching experience and is familiar with all the ACC teams.
It really would be the perfect hire.

This is what happens once your program slips below mediocre

This is what you can get if the Program is in good shape

right...the service academies have to run the option...it is the only way for them to compete...

False, he would be a great hire for alot of teams, especially the U. A proven winner at a school that is not necessarily easy to win at. Could do great things for the U.
