All of our "talent" at WR

JJ takes a lot of heat and some deserved
But guys, this group isn't anything compared to the 2006 bunch or even the 2007 bunch for that matter. They're just not as good. 2008 group was arguably better as well....
RR looks like the only legit target that is both a consistent possession guy and a deep threat. Tolliver has shown flashes throughout his career but never really blew up like a lot of us expected.
RS just doesn't look comfortable yet. Maybe one day he'll get there but right now he's not even where S Green was in 03.
This group of WRs has potential but they're just not THAT good yet. It's possible they could develop into something special but I don't see why people are comparing them to the Bowe/Davis/Doucet group. They aren't even close.

Our QB situation isn't desirable
But people act like we have an assortment of first day draft picks playing wide out for us. We have one first day guy and a couple of undrafted free agents at best.

totally agree on this JJ is taking a lot of flak for this.
how many catches has RS dropped this season. Good WR playmakers are supposed to make the hard catches.
did you all see the one handed catch the osu wr or TE took in last nights game OSU v Texas anm

It's hard to get comfortable when you have no clue where the ball is going to be delivered.

True so far RR has looked the best and TT has forgotten how to catch the ball. RS drops a few as I expected. Receivers need to do better. Agree 1000%. But the QB needs to start throwing a high percentage of the ball at their numbers.

At the beginning of the season I would argue with you but at this point I think you're right.
RS has not been utilized effectively. It seems like he is streaking down the field on too many routes. I think he would do better as the underneath route runner so the main objective is to get the ball to him in space. It seems like we have just thrown him into the mix as an ordinary receiver and that has created a learning curve for not only him but the entire offense.

While many posters note that Shep was a 5* recruit, few seem to remember that he was not a 5* recruit at WR. He certainly has all the right moves with the ball in his hands, the problem is that sometimes the ball goes through his hands.

What I want to know is what happened to grabbing Gonzales from Florida? Wasn't he supposed to have some immediate impact on this problem?

we'll never know as long as JJ is the QB and we continue to throw 6 yard passes

Yeah and I think his #1 project was RS. He was suppposed to be the next P Harvin but so far this season his contributions have not even resembled PH's. Like I said its like we tried to convert him to a true WR overnight and that should not be his role. He is at that position so he can be on the field as often as possible

I completely agree. One of the things we as fans don't necessarily see either is the sloppy or just incorrect route running that I suspect is happening with this group quite a bit. Randle is definitely the best of the bunch. That's why I've said we need to move Shepard into more of the "Reggie Bush" role and less as a traditional receiver.

Be specific. What % of the problems in the passing game would you attribute to the WRs?
Posted on 10/1/10 at 1:49 pm to Powerman
JJ gets a lot of blame and a lot of it is well deserved IMO. However, I will agree that this WR corps hasn't lived up to the hype. As of today, I feel most comfortable with Randle getting the ball.

quote:RR is the real deal. For some reason I've never been sold on TT. He's dropped too many passes over the years and I don't get a killer instinct vibe from him. Sure, he has the height and speed but not the hands. RR, yes. RS, I still think he's coming along and learning the position.

JMO but i think they are using the wrong WR's on the wrong plays. the screen they threw to Rueben should have been to shep.
the post pattern to shep should have been to Rueben.
The first pass that Rueben caught is one that all of them can be good at.
even on blocking, why send blue on a flare pass behind shep when the other 2 are your best blockers.
just simple things like that.
think about the first game, the post worked to Rueben for a TD and the slant worked to shep for a TD. why havent we seen it done this way since?
but what do i know?

I agree that the drops are a big problem, but I still think a good number of them can be attributed to poor throwing.
Personally I don't think enough catchable balls have been thrown to make a complete argument that we have a WR receiver problem in addition to our QB problem. Even the best WR drops the best of throws from time to time. The drops could potentially be more noticeable for LSU because there have been so few catchable ones.
Regardless though when you have a QB that has a QB rating of 97.21 and less than a 100 yards in the past three games obviously the problem lies more with the QB than the WRs

In order to talk about the receivers you almost have to talk about the qb. And I disagree with the OP.
I think all three end up playing in the NFL.
