Maison Lacour or Brandt's Maisonette

My wife's birthday is Wednesday. I would like to make a reservation at Maison Lacour or Brandt's Maisonette. One of my friends recommends Maison Lacour and the other recommends Brandt's Masionette. We have gone to neither, but we have been at most other good restaurants around town (Flemings, jubans, mansurs, galatoire's....)
What do the wise members of F&D Board recommend?

I haven't been to either, but my parents have eaten at Maison Lacour 2 or 3 times in the past month and enjoyed all of the meals, very much. Not much info for you, other that that it's very good. They like the atmosphere, as well.
I love their homemade bottled salad dressing. Had my parents bring me several bottles from their last trip there.

???
Brandt's has exactly 1 table that seats more than 4 people.
And, in my opinion, Brandt's is better than Lacour across the board.

I'd say Brandt's is a bit more traditional, and very good, but Maison Lacour's food is a little break from the norm, and done very well. Don't get me wrong. You're not going to be dissapointed in either IMO, but Maison Lacour is a little more of a treat for the palate if you're looking for something less traditional and more inspired. It's not crazy out there, but just less traditional than Brandts. Again, it's not really a knock on Brandt's, because they do traditional really well and that's the shtick there, but Maison Lacour's food just lends itself to being a little more interesting IMO. I think it really depends on what you're into at the moment.

Maison Lacour because you get to see Mike J !
Mike J is a legendary figure from my teen years and a helluva chef.
Thanks for reminding me where I need to go.

Thanks for all your help guys. Looks like we will be going to Brandts. We like traditional food. Maison Lacour appears to be for a fancier palette from reading their menu. We both like good simple food. Wife will get the filet, I usually get fish or lamb. But we get no sauce or creams on top- we like the taste of the steak or fish itself.
