Is there a better "Asian" restaurant in BR?
Went there again for dinner last night it was great, as per usual

The food is good, but is that lady manager, a blond the last time I was there, still involved? She always comes and stands over my table and talks to us half the time we're there, I'd rather have privacy.

Used to run a great print ad that said

Had Nguyen Bistro for dinner tonight and LOVED it.

I had the Thai Coconut Soup, Brad had the House Soup which was a mixture of the Coconut and the Lemongrass Soup.

Then I just got Pad Thai (theirs was great) and Brag got the Lemongrass Ginger Chicken which was outstanding.

Our waiter was extremely nice and attentive (of course we were one of 3 tables in there lol)

Overall, definitely a great dinner and I will definitely be going back. I loved the prices most of all. I've spend $18 on LUNCH at Thai Kitchen. This place was very moderately priced.

I thought this was one dish that was well below par for the restaurant. Weak flavor and too sickly-sweet for my taste.

I cannot understand how that place gets any business.

Fair enough. See, I liked theirs better than others because I felt like it had a strong peanut flavor. I will agree with you that it was sweeter than others (it was a pinkish color while others I've had were a tan color) but the sweetness is what made me like it more for some reason :)

Many people on that side of town have little desire to venture away from their "neighborhood" when there are so many good places around BR. I can't stand that mentality.. I'll drive to any part of BR for good food and even out of town on some nights.
Most people I've met from the LSU area don't even know how to get to Jones Creek on their own. It's sad.

With Duang Tawan and Nguyen Bistro serving awesome Asian food, I don't see how Thai Kitchen is as packed as it is other than location.

I don't think it's bad-tasting or anything, but I was just put off when she told me my bill was $18 for Pad Thai and a side salad. I just looked at the menu and honestly the prices are about the same so I should have expected it, but I have never paid $18 for take out to bring back to work and was just shocked.

I've found the same thing to be true. Sadly, the dish arrived without the green onions that was touted in the menu which would have not only helped out the anemic color, but would have added another depth in taste away from the simple tomato paste.

Duang Tawan's Pad Thai > Nguyen's

OLE and LL, please leave a review on your experience at the dining guide. Right now, mine is the only one.

Duang Tawan's Pad Thai is very good and they will make it very spicy for you.

It's my Pad Thai and I'll cry if I want to

Yeah, I may be in the minority there. The best Thai place I ever went to (some random place in NY) had the same thing going on with their Pad Thai.

Really, I was extremely disappointed when I went. Instead of using more flavorful chicken thighs for their dishes, they use frozen chicken breasts.

The waitress there admitted they tone down their food for american tastes.

Duang Tawan
The Thai dishes are solid, but I've never sampled their Japanese offerings (see other thread about how restaurants don't stick with their theme). I just don't see the volume of business enough to keep raw fish fresh enough for sashimi quality.

This is what Brag got. They said it's just a mix of their other two main soups so you got a taste of both :D

I think I would've had to laugh a bit at that one.
If it tastes good go for it I guess.

Sounds like a strange thing to mix, right? But his mixture-soup was way better than my coconut soup (although mine was great too)
