Not that I disagree with this legislation, but I have never seen marlin served as food.

It is prized in Mexico as a food fish.

Bill fish are off limits to commercial fishing in the US however they can be caught in south american countries. I had to opportunity to buy marlin at my old family's seafood company but thought it was weird it was offered. Didn't think it would be a huge hit here.

I was in Cabo a few weeks ago and saw it listed at a sushi place while walking around the marina.

Thats Nik San (sushi) your talking about I'm guessing. I've been there & I've had striped marlin sushi there. It was good.

But I agree it shouldn't be on the menu. I was just too curious not to try it.

Had we been eating I would have tried it, but we were just passing through...

Our charter boat had a sticker with a 29 (I think) red circle with a line through. We asked what it represented and the captain said that there was one boat that killed all the marlin it caught and that all the other boats were against unnecessary killing of billfish and had the sticker.

good to hear it. We went out with Minerva's and they released everything we caught (3 sails).

We booked with Redrum, but were subbed out to contract boat (know at time of booking.)

We had two marlins in the baits, but no hookups. One chicken Dorado was the only fish for the day.

We were one of the last boats in the marina for the day and appeared to have drawn the short straw as most boats had marlin and dorado flags flying, some with multiple tag flags. Guess that is why it is called fishing.

I certainly don't agree with over fishing of any species, but why should Marlin be taken off the menu? I'd much rather them be eaten than just thrown out to sea if they die during the catch.

I hate to see them completely removed from the menu. I would agree with stricter regulations.

On vacation in Hawaii about five years ago it was on the menu so I had to try it out of curiosity. It is VERY good. I don't know enough about the worldwide population of Marlin, if endangered lets stop the fishing, if not lets allow a few to head to the table.

I can't stand long liners. There are quite a few operating out of LA and they kill indiscriminately.

Its been about a yr or 2.

The problem is no international law for protection. Thats why the bills, swords, and tuna are hurting, because of the long lining in international waters.
