I've always found beer to be flat when frozen.

I don't think I would like that.

I saw a frozen beer pop on the internet last week. Seemed terrible.

This. There's just no way around it.

Plus, quality beers actually taste better when they're not almost to the point of freezing, unlike the mass produced swill most folks drink.

Horrible idea... the alcohol throws off the freezing point and separates from the rest of the beer. There's actually a brewing process used in Germany primarily where they freeze the beer during fermentation and scoop the ice off the top (essentially just removing water) to make the beer stronger. They're called Eisbocks and the strongest are in the 30-40% alcohol range.

If you cold get it cold enough quickly enough to prevent the alcohol from separating... maybe.

Im not sure what they do with the ice cream at creole creamery or what % of beer they use or even if they use beer but that Summer Ale flavor is awesome there.

Is the finished product even alcoholic? I've seen homemade bourbon ice cream before that was delicious, not sure how that worked regarding the alcohol separation.

Get an electric ice cream freezer and give it a try. Just pour the beer in and turn it on. It works great for margaritas and daiquiris... Beer sorbet, mmmm.

Pretty sure any alcohol that was in it was cooked off if there ever was beer in it. Its just a very refreshing ice cream. For all I know they may just use corriander and other seasonings to mimick a summer ale.

If you have never been to Creole Creamery I highly recommend it. The lines are pretty bad though.

It is relatively common to add alcohol to ice cream recipes. Because you dont actually want ice, it makes it smoother. But the alcohol is in there.

There is a place in Alexandria,VA called Rustico that used to have Beersicles in warm weather. I know they did not just pour beer into popsicles molds and freeze, they had to add some special ingredient to make it all work.

Yeah, you'd have to put something in there to make it all freeze at the same temperature.

nope...and actually doing some further research, my memory is coming back to me.

it was an interesting case because they actually got shut down by the VA ABC due to a law that requires beer to be served in its original container or directly from it. they ended up amending the law a little.

apparently the original beer pops were 100% beer, but partly to appease the laws they now include some other ingredients (so it's like they are creating a new dish--in the same way that it is legal to cook with wine or something i think). they also get rid of the carbonation before freezing.

these aren't frzen miller lights, though, it's very flavorful beers that taste pretty good. i had a rasbperryish beer pop and it was nice

as i noted below, i knew they added something but apparently originally it was pure beer--and they had success with it. possibly they froze it at a really low temperature quickly, or something with removing the bubbles aided the process as well?

i know if i leave a budweiser in the freezer and try to drink it, it's disgusting. maybe with these beers it still 'works' even though the flavor changes

I was referring to creole creamery when I said they serve it to kids. Im really not sure if they are using beer or not. Just has a belgium wit flavor to it and its pretty damn good.
