ok, everyone in the world cup flops, some more than others, but most everyone does it.

but listening to the announcers most of them seem ok with it when its Portugal, Italy, or Spain, but when a less prestigious nation like a African and South American nations do it, its a disgrace to them game.

Like just now when Torres flopped, announcers defended him saying there was contact and when you're running at those speeds anything will make you fall. or when Ronaldo didn't even get grazed, the announcers just laughed it off and said it was good acting. but when the Ivory Coast did it, the announcers bashed him for the rest of the game, as they do with smaller nations.

flopping is a blemish on the sport and it should be frowned upon by every person involed.

Like I said in the earlier thread, the flop in the Ivory Coast game may have been the smartest move in the WC.

pretty much everyone in the world acknowledges that Ronaldo, a Portuguese player, and the whole of the Italian team are among the worst divers in the world. In general, the worst teams are South American, Southern Europe and African teams.

like i said, i agree with you, but just because they are so well known they get defended for flopping, but others are getting blamed for ruining the sport. so how is an unknown player ruining the sport when two of the world's most popular players (ronaldo, torres) and some of the most popular teams (spain, portugal, italy) arent?

ive watched at leastr a half of every game and those three have been by far the worst IMO

I agree with the OP except that Italy gets literally crucified for it like no other team by announcers (" in Italy they call it being sly while in England we call it cheating" -- "disgrace to the game" etc ect) and fans of every other team in the world -- ironically even fans of Spain and South American teams who flop just as badly as the Italians.

I guess Jozy didn't learn quickly enough in Villareal or Xerez, did he? Done a damn good job in the WC, hasn't he?

You bunch of stupid faux footballers you.

I don't know which calls you guys have been hearing. Ian Darke did the first Portugal game, and every time Ronaldo flopped he commented negatively upon it. He even said, there's Ronaldo on the floor again, but we've come to expect that."

He was also astounded by Marco Estrada's red and only stopped short of totally trashing Fernando Torres because he tripped over his own damn feet. Both Ian Darke and Efan Ekoku were really upset at that call.

I'm watching it now on DVR, but was listening live on Futbol de Primero and Andres Cantor was FUUUUUUUUUURIOUS over that second yellow card. Very angry, that he got into it with Javier Castrili, told him he was wrong, that it was undeserved. He was PISSED, and Argentines (Cantor) don't have much love for Chile. I was shocked at how much he got into it.

In fact he saw the "foul" even BEFORE he called the goal. The goal almost caught him by surprise.

Terrible call. The ref played advantage to Spain. Should have been a non-call. The result of the continuation was a goal. Chile now has three starters out of the match against Brazil. They should protest, but FIFA won't listen.

Andres said something, iIrc, about this being yet ANOTHER horrible call this World Cup and that it's been simply terrible since the opening game.

Yeah absolutely terrible call. Worse that it diminished what should've been one of the better matches of group play between 2 enjoyable sides. However, for me, I don't really have that much against Torres / Spain for the faked injury since sooner or later every team seems to do it. It's just that fans should shut up about certain teams flopping because they look pretty ridiculous when their own side does it even worse the next match.

Chile should have played with nine.

Anyway, Chile reminds of Spain in 2006. Good things await them if they don't can Bielsa.

Good call. A great generation of players coming up that aren't experienced enough to see it through. Yet...

No doubt, but I do draw a distinction between falling, especially when you are running, and staying on the ground and writhing in apparent pain for two minutes when you've barely even been touched. It's easy to trip and fall when you're running even when there is barely any contact, but you should get right back up if you're not hurt. And the obvious fakers, like the ones who get brushed lightly on the back and then apparently go blind from it, should be banned from international competition for a complete World Cup cycle.

I don't listen much to announcers in sports events, other than when I've got the TV on but am not actually watching it, in which case I turn my attention when they get excited and start shouting, so I haven't noticed this much. If true, then of course it's stupid. One of my friends played soccer all his life and absolutely loves the sport, but even he agrees that soccer players are far and away the biggest crybabies in sports.
