Great news for laffy...his place is unique but there is certainly similar places for competition...I would have done BR's market and pwn it.

Nothing even approaching high end or even full service dining, though.

It will be ineresting to see if the folks there embrace such a concept in a full service place, approaching high end type dining (with prices to match).

I actually was thinking about successful non traditional louisiana restaurants that I would like to bring to BR from N.O. and at the top of that list would be Cochon and Rio Mar. I think they would both kill in good locations.

right.

if it's the same menu it might be a tougher sell than folks think. Super expensive cajun inspired food being sold to cajuns? we'll see.

Agreed...I think it will do well...

I am just asking you, YA...which of the two markets is more ripe for Cochon in your opinion?

It is far from super expensive...I would say its moderate to slightly pricey...second, there are several places in Laffy already selling expensive cajun foods to cajuns.

Expensive, interesting takes of ones cuisine is marketed all the time to its birth market...i.e. Charleston, NOLA, Santa Fe, Strasbourg, Florence, etc.

i guess we have different ideas of expensive relative to what is being served at Cochon compared to other Laffy places of the similar cuisine.

he's a good chef so i doubt it will fail, but just that it's not a slam dunk to do absolutely great.

Nothing in the restaurant indistry is a slam dunk...like I said, I think BR would have been the better market at this point. Link is cajun so this may have always been a dream to have restaurants in NOLA and Laffy...who knows.

It may be a different place entirely...for one there is no deck space in the Warehouse District location.....not so many trees either.

Most of the food he serves, if people in that area are used to purchasing it, they're normally purchasing it in a gas station.

It's not a knock on the area, it's just a fact.

Hell, it's one of the reasons I have a hard time justifying eating at his place.

im not overly familiar with Lafayette, but i tend to agree that the menu pricing could be a problem for that area.

Next to River Ranch will help with the pricing.

Agree that BR probably makes more sense, but where would you put it? Highland somewhere?

He is from Robert's Cove which is about 20 minutes from Lafayette so I'm sure that had something to do with it.

Cochon isn't expensive at all. The Small serving plates are 8-12 dollars or so, the meals are 18 - 25 or so.

That is comparable to Zea's, and I have never seen anyone suggest that a place like Zea's is too expensive for Laffy. (And I am sure the Zea's there is doing fine.)

Either downtown or in the old Walmart mixed use development yet to be built. Brennans are said to be going in there.

Downtown is still a ghost town most nights, but ideally that would be the spot. Probably why he is in Laffy first.
