I enjoyed Ybor City. Really neat "old" area.
Went to the Tampa Bay Brewing Company. Food was good, beer was good.

Ybor is for guidos and shitty college kids.
Check out ChannelSide... there's a few good bars/restaurants in there.
Stay away from Ybor.
Hyde Park Cafe is a good spot too, expensive, but good clientele and service.

Jackson's is good for happy hour... blue martini for later in the evening... I think Blue Martini is near the mall, but there's a bunch of shite over there, worth the taxi ride.
I think there's a bowling alley that's actually pretty fun... it's called Strikesville (?) or something close to that.
And a Tapa's place called Tina's has good Ceviche if you're into that...
But they've got the usual crap too (hooters, etc)

If you make it towards Hyde Park, you'll find good spots for beers/food...
I can't remember exactly where The Dubliner is (but I know there's a North and a South... whichever one is on Azeele street is the better one) but it's a pretty sweet irish bar...
and McDinton's is a good patio/drink specials kind of place.

on the way to St. Pete Beach, right?
Isn't there another restaurant there that's pretty tight?
(I know it's one of those higher end establishments... like a more selective chain)
I want to say it's got kind of a 'tiki' theme?

I think so, its been 15++ years since I've been in the area. The only places I ate were Hooters or a knock-off called the Fraternity House???
Being a Louisiana food snob, I gave up on looking for good food when out of town. I just get bar food from places like this and you are never disappointed!

Try the Columbia Resturant in Ybor City for some traditional Cuban food. It's been open since 1905, lots of history in there.

If your lookin for a fast cheap lunch one day hit up one of the pollo tropicals. Its a carribean fast food joint that is really tasty...

I thouight the Paella at the Columbia in Ybor was outstanding, but that was 30 yrs ago.

For steak, go Bern's or Shula's...
For Spanish, the Columbia is awesome.
Other spots worth checking out,.. Wrights Deli, Jacksons, Ciccio & Tony's, and Donatello..
Tampa does only a few things great, in general the Thai food is spectacular. The majority of Tampa is mostly chain restaurant fare.
P.S. I just wasted my 1,000 post on this!
