going to 36" probably 6 burner, hopefully under 4K. Any reviews or recommendations on Viking, Wolf, Thermidor or F&P.

Do not buy viking.
They are good, but not what the company used to put out. I personally do not own won, but am in a situation where i know many people of who can or do have them. Many problems. Get a wolf, got to talk with the local guy who repairs wolf, viking, sub-zero etc... has too many problems with the vikings. Wolf is the way to go.

also, the viking is open around the base of the range where the flame comes out, makes it hard to clean. The wolf isn't, I have actually cooked on a wolf several times

Love the Wolf, but have no experience with any of the others.

I am still slumming it with my $1k GE Profile 30" four burner. I wanted the 36" but wouldn't fit without major kitchen remodel.

My neighbor has the Wolf in his kitchen island and it looks like a bad arse stove.

Check Ebay - I purchased a Five Star (made by Brown Stove Company - the maker of the "old" Viking ranges) from a distributor on Ebay and had it shipped to my home for less than half of what I could have purchased it locally.

Probably not going to find a 36" Pro range for under $4K. At least not a Viking, Thermador, etc.
F&P is actually made by an italian company Delonghi.
I would stay away from that one.
As stated before, do NOT buy anything made by Viking. Their quality has really gone downhill in the last 5 years.
Thermador prob makes the best range out there but, as I said, your probably looking at $5600 for the Pro Harmony range. However, Thermador does have a promotion going on where if you purchase a range you get their top of the line dishwasher.....sells for $1400 for free.

If you don't mind buying something that sets on legs that are visible, has to have clearance spaces on the sides and rear for fire purposes, and looks like what is used in commercial restaurants, go that route. There is some good stuff avaiable for much less money than what the brands you listed command.

You might want to take a look at some of the stuff in the local restaurant supply houses, Ducote's being one. I bought a 6 burner Imperial about a year or so ago for $1150. All stainless exterior includeing the flue vent and shelf on the back side, and a porcelain interior. I also noticed the last time I was there that they are carrying a line called Southland? a 36 inch with 6 burners and full size oven was tagged somewhere around $1300. American is another brand carried by some of the restaurant supply houses and priced about the same.

These are gas units I am referring to.

When we bought our house, it was eight years old. It has a 6 burner DCS ( Dynamic Cooking Systems ) range with a flat top stainless griddle and a large and small oven. It looks a lot like the viking stoves, anyone know about these. We have lived here for three years, and really like it.

I had a Thermador in my house in CA. When I buy a house here, I'm getting another one. It was awesome.

Sears has a few brands under the Kenmore name for a fair price, if you ask who makes it, they will tell you.

That's what I have except I got the griddle in the middle and 4 burners. It's bad arse. The dishwasher is very nice also. Extremely quiet. You will be pleased.
