When I drink Crown it has to be Cask No. 16. Super smooth and great with Coke Zero.

great with Coke Zero.

Dude! You DON'T mix a $70 whiskey with coke...

And to answer the OP's question... it's Xtra Rare(XR)... get that!

It's a personal preference. You're not "ruining" a good whiskey by mixing it. You can definitely tell the difference between a $10 bottle and a $100 bottle even when mixing. Not everyone likes to drink straight alcohol.

I prefer Gentleman Jack or Single Barrell on the rocks. For some reason Crown is better with Coke.

had a guy tell me the XR taste pretty much like the reserve

they are just taggin' it extra rare because it came from a distillery that burned down

quote:

n 2006, Crown Royal XR (extra rare) was introduced in the US by allocation and the Canadian market (initially, only in Ontario and Alberta). Available in Québec since January 2008. This limited-release special blend of Crown Royal is sold in numbered bottles, and is made from the last batch of whiskey distilled at the Waterloo distillery. After mothballing in 1992, the Waterloo distillery burned down in 1993, with only a small amount of whisky being left behind [11]. It received a 7¼ and 7¾ from Whisky Magazine critics [12].

I've had both many times. I love em both, but I think I prefer the Cask 16 over the XR.

XR, but only if drinking it neat. if mixing, save the money.

My TWO bottles of XR. One about 3/4 empty and the other not opened. Both bought in late 2006. The unopened one won't be opened till my soon-to-be-born Son gets married.

And my bottle of 2009 Sam Adams Utopias. Will be opened on the day my Son is born (any day now).

Thx, he pretty much only drinks Reserve, so I guess I'll try the Cask No. 16 this time and get the Xtra Rare next time...

Does it have to be Crown?

I'd go with Johnnie Walker... at least green label as a gift...

It's kind of similar to walking in a nice steak restaurant and ordering a steak with ketchup. And fwiw Crown is pretty sub par compared to other whiskeys and bourbons.

It's tough to find. Call around to the local wine markets, higher end grocery stores and beer stores.
