Saw it in July out in LA and I was bummed after I saw it because I didn't think because of its release date it would get a fair crack at the best picture nom it deserves. Happy to say it looks like it will.

Kathryn Bigelow also proved me wrong. A woman can direct a war movie. Probably the best I've seen.

Look at the stuff she's directed. She can do tension and action.

The Amazon buyer reviews for this are good except for actual Iraqi veterans who say it's disrespectful to soldiers (IIRC, b/c it shows them as irresponsible).

Anyway, does it have a political slant or is it just a war movie?

That seems debatable, I might have to ask some buddies of mine.

Just a war movie

Edit: Lead actor is very good btw. One of the better performances of the year imo

FWIW, IIRC it was specifically EOD team guys who said it just didnt represent what they did, and if they did act the way the movie portrayed them, it would have gotten people killed.

That doesnt at all mean it's not a great movie. I will watch it.

I remember the first time I seen Jeremy Renner was on that reality show The It Factor. The show was about upcoming actors and they showed him auditioning for Swat I believe. It was right after Dahmer had came out. I always kept him in the back of my mind since then. Turned out to be pretty good.

Just watched last night and gotta say it's definitely in my top 25. Great movie, most interesting part was the soldier back in civilian life.

Stupid question, is the "hurt locker" the locker where they are putting the first sergeant's stuff?

The “hurt locker” of the title refers to his collection of detonators from bombs he’s taken apart, fragments of wire that just barely missed out on their chance to kill him.
