Never had one but thinking of getting one for my mom for Xmas dinner. Are they worth it? If so anyone know a good place in NOLA or Mandeville area to get one?

First, they're absolutely incredible and well worth it IMO.

Second, I've never bought one but had a friend who lives in Mandeville cook one that was outstanding. I'll try to see where he got it and get back to you.

I like them, mainly for the duck. Get one with layers of different stuffing. Just cornbread gets a bit routine on the plate.

its 3 great on their own birds stuffed inside each other with a bunch of stuffing and seasoning, how in the world would this not be incredible, and worth it?

no, imo.

my reason is my favorite part of poultry, and esp duck, is the crispy skin. With a Turducken you lose out on the crispy duck and chicken skin.

It doesn't suck at all, and i like all of the components, but i just like the skin too much.

Chicken Cracklings.............

If anybody does cook a Turducken..............

SAVE THE DRIPPINGS/JUICE!!!!!!

I usually add some water in the pan before cooking. This stuff is magical when used as an addition to your Gumbo Stock!!!!!!!!

I would prefer the 3 dif layers of stuffing but most only sell 1 or 2 stuffings per turducken... Where can I get one w/ all 3?

Hebert's will do specialty Turdukens if you order them, but right now they may tell you to frick off.

I went by the other day and it was 6 deep at every register with about 12 Messicans in the back sewing chickens like it was going out of style.

Doesn't frying a bird require the empty cavity to cook properly?

sadly, i will roast a bunch of chicken thighs...then pull the fatty, crunchy skin off of them while hot and eat it like heart attack inducing potato chips. The meat is secondary.

amazing with ice cold bud in a can.

i have issues.

I think they are good but not worth it. Too much stuffing all over the place. If someone cooks one I will enjoy it however for the expense I would rather just make a very good turkey and a pork or rib roast as options instead.

Cooked my first one on Thanksgiving, everybody said they liked it, to me it was "meh", I would rather a brined well roasted bird but to each his own and it is a conversation piece, as someone said, save the drippings, the very best gravy I have ever had, also No to the frying, will not work, as to fry correctly the hot oil has to fill the cavity of the bird and cook from both sides
