Permanent retainer broke: Can a dentist fix it?

After getting my braces off 7 years ago, my permanent wire retainer behind my bottom teeth (spanning from one lower cuspid to the other) came loose on one side. The cement wore off I guess.

It's not exactly convenient to drive a few hours to my orthodontist, so I'm wondering if dentists can fix this. If so, any idea how much they'd charge? I assume insurance won't cover it. I wish you could just buy the stuff outright. I could probably fix it myself.

It's been loose for 2 days and my teeth are getting sore. I guess that means they are trying to shift back into the way they were. Pretty archaic way to fix teeth. Maybe I'll let them go crooked again. Gives me character. The bottom ones use to be crooked like Will Ferrell's.

why don't you call your orthodontist and tell them what happened....they may know someone in the area where you live now that they can call and refer you too.

Good idea. Though I still wonder what it will cost me.

And I do have some Gorilla Glue at home...
