I'm sure I'll catch heat for this, but how does a team that lost so much on D and is probably gonna start a true frshman at quarterback get a preseason ranking in the top 5. These preseason rankings do matter as its difficult to move up in the polls. It just amazes me how much the media worships this program.I wish we would schedule a home and home with them.

Here is a better question. What is Pete Caroll/USC doing under the table to garner all the talent in that area of California?
Posted on 8/23/09 at 8:14 am to jwill37
corp is a redshirt sophmore, although he might still be injured.

The same reason ESPN's college football show provides daily updates of USC's QB competition as if the entire nation is transfixed on what's taking place in LA. The media loves USC. They love Pete, they love LA.

USC is doing what they have always done. Slipping cash under the table.

Corp is injured. I mean how do you not rank teams according to returning personnel. If you're gonna take the time to do preseason rankings at least do it right.

Why are you so consumed by a Pre-Season rating?? If they are undeserving as you say, they will lose and fall in the polls.
They have been a top 5 team for 7 years in a row. They lost a lot of players during those years. They recruit top 5 classes, and play in a conference they can win every year. That pretty much is a recipe for being ranked in the Top 5.
Repeat after me.
My team won the 2003 BCS Championship, and I have no reason to hate USC.......My team won the 2003 BCS...frick it. Never mind.

There is no doubt we have two balls in the past decade and they don't. But here is the deal. It is normal to be suspicions of a program that domintates so complete a conference in the way that USC does. If the scheduling is setup in a way that promotes true competition one has to wonder what is really going on here. You can't just give Pete Caroll all the credit as he was an utter failure in the NFL.
Things that may you say hmmm.

Hmmm. The D is stout. Prolly the 2nd best ever under PC. O is outstanding and maybe the best since 2005. Corp is back. It's not like USC has never lost a number of key players and started a new QB and finhsed out of the top five since 2002.

This board also provides daily updates on USC.
And also updates on ESPN's updates of USC.

The whole ESPN loves USC thing is about to turn to a SEC slurpfest. We really need to stop complaining about it.

Spurrier dominated the SEC in the 90's and was a failure in the pros. What does the NFL have to do with anything? Also, your quote about scheduling promoting competition is confusing and irrelevant. It's all about recruiting and coaching.

So you lost cushing, matthews and maualuga
and now you have the 2nd best D ever?
c'mon.

second best ever...no. 2nd best under PC? probably. D line is extremely deep with talent. Secondary is stellar. LB's will be solid. Galipo will be the anchor of the LB's.

Tangerine,
Have you seen we are going to run a "Falcon" defense?
Pinkard and Harris on the field, with Mays roaming.
Our D will be great. Just concerned about the run against bigger backs.

I saw that [d]. This is my only concern, but I think we'll be fine with the line. Will be aninteresting year. Have not had a QB with the mobility of Corp for a long time.

Reading the ESPN ticker, is Carroll trying to say that Corp is a faking pussy with his injury?

No.
Wants him back. I think Barkley is making Freshman mistakes of forcing the ball.
