Barkley has looked like pure dogshit for about a week and a half now. If he starts, I really don't have any expectations for SC to do much of anything

he'd probably be like Stafford his true freshman year at UGA... they went 9-4, he threw alot of interceptions and struggled, but showed flashes of brilliance and kept making significant improvement as the season went on.

I'm sure I'll catch heat for this, but how does a team that lost so much on D and is probably gonna start a true frshman at quarterback get a preseason ranking in the top 5.

Because they consistently recruit top 3 talent and haven't finished with more than 2 losses or outside of the top 5 since 2001

You can't just give Pete Caroll all the credit as he was an utter failure in the NFL.

link?

He finished with a 33-31 record, won the AFC East once, and made the playoffs a couple of times. He certainly wasn't on his way to the Hall of Fame, but was was nowhere near an "utter failure." Do you honestly think that or do you just regurgitate without thinking bullshite that other people pull out of their arse?

not saying Carroll was the worst coach ever or Payton is worth a shite but its a little different taking over a bunch of Jim Haslett scrubs and taking over a Parcells team the year after they made the super bowl. Carroll went 6-10 his one year in NY and took a super bowl team to the unemployment line in 3 years in NE.

A few of you on here are just dishonest lying mutha suckas.

Be honest, id you were to win a substantial amount of money if you could pick the winner of USC vs wohever at a neutral field, who outside of the top-4 would you pick to beat USC? Money on the line no more bs.

b/c they always finish top 5, don't have many overly tough games, have WAY more talent than every one of their opponents, and don't have a conference title game.

, This part is correct.

don't have many overly tough games
this part is incorrect. Toughest overall schedule of the contenders.

and don't have a conference title game.
Another incorrect answer. CCG's have shown to be a positive, not a negative in getting into the mnc game

no, it's correct.

you play zero preseason top 10 teams. Overall balance is not a true threat to a great team. Playing truly elite challenges is a greater threat.

have some numbers for me? also, a loss in the CCG is usually a real threat.....and could easily knock you out of the top 5.

cClearly you have no idea of what you are talking about. We play a preason top 10 team on the road in week 2, we play 2 other preason top-15 teams on the road, and 1 other preseason top 25 team on the road.

4 road games vs ranked teams.

ah yes, i did forget about Ohio State. I was only glancing at the usual weak rest of the Pac 10 teams.

so the schedule is respectable.

The same reason ESPN's college football show provides daily updates of USC's QB competition as if the entire nation is transfixed on what's taking place in LA. The media loves USC. They love Pete, they love LA.

Pretty much. It's not worth breaking a sweat over.

Respectable? Who among the serious competitors is tougher overall?

6 road games, 4 vs preseason ranked opponents, Oregon St who is ranked at home as well
Then look at ASU, Stanford, ucla, Arizona who all could be ranked at some point in this season and are what I consider fringe ranked teams. Washington St is horrible, San Jose St is a mid-level mid-major a 6-6 type of team. Outside of those 2, it is a very solid schedule.
