Jimmy John's Sandwiches

To be in the Perkin's Hardware mixed use building in the early fall. I found a thread on here that said the food was complete shite. Looks like Baton Rouge is getting one. Is it really that bad?

I like Jimmy John's. I'm a fan of the #1- The Pepe.

I had them in Denver....not too bad, beats the hell out of Subway with a stick.
I wish some deli places would start serving more roasted turkey as opposed to smoked (this place only serves smoked too).

It's pretty good. Nice change from the Subway's and Blimpie's of the world.

Haven't tried Jimmy Johns yet here in DFW, but if you can find Firehouse Subs, which is a chain based out of Florida, they pretty much beat all the rest!! Plus they have hot sauces from practically all over the world and from low heat to ones that will make you sweat profusely and think that your throat is on fire!! Started by two former firemen, also!!

Nah it's good, but their "Gargantuan" is a misnomer.

A chain at the overpass. This is very very bad. I am extremely dissapointed by this.

I tend to agree.
I didn't want to be the first to say it, though.

I was just saying the other day how much I missed these sandwiches. Very good bread, amazingly fast service, and good fresh sandwich for $5. WAY better than subway and blimpie.

I'm just pissed about a chain in that location. I wanted a local place in there, preferably a pizza joint as originally planned by the Zippy's dude or even a good locally owned coffee shop.

t doesn't look very impressive. In the words of Rush, I hope it fails.
i would agree, very uninspiring menu.

I agree it's disappointing with a chain moving into the Perkin's overpass area, because that's where I tend to be every weekend. Unfortunately, I'm guessing the lease in the new mixed use building will be substantial, and for someone to attempt to start a local restaurant/food joint it would be extremely hard to create a positive bottom line from the get go. This way an established chain with enough capital can pay the lease, sell sandwiches at competitive prices, and make ends meet. I don't like it, but it seems that's the way things are swinging in Baton Rouge nowadays. Especially in areas like Perkins Rowe, Bluebonnet, and Town Center.

People with money to invest think that there is enough non-discriminating <35 market out there to make a profit with another chain restaurant. They are likely correct. "It is better than Subway or Blimpie's" is the definition of damning with faint praise.
After my recent travels up the east coast it is easy to see why chains are so popular, the food is generally better than the local market can provide. This is not the case in any part of south Louisiana.

Absolutely agree, and let me tell you, after dealing with and looking at the financials of various Subways, Quizno's, and other chain restaurants in Baton Rouge, I'm surprised any of them actually turn a profit in this town when put in competition with local food. Very few of the ones I've seen do. Not easy to do when you're forced to give 11-12% of gross sales to corporate for your franchise fee and your cash registers are monitored by corporate electronically.

I have heard a similar assessment from financial people. I think McDonald's and Cane's do so well here because the Valuzzo's and Todd Graves are very good managers. A few years ago I looked into a Subway franchise, but the projected return looked small for the time and money involved.

Jimmy John's is far better than Subway or Blimpie. Much faster and better service as well. Good addition to Baton Rouge. Only sandwich that is still better in BR is Inga's but it looks like she doesn't want to branch out of the LSU area.
I know a franchise owner in Mobile. They treat him well and his fees aren't too bad. He's doing pretty well apparently.

Only Inga's? Inga's is nice lunch place, but BR has some great high end places to get a sandwich.
