Sean Payton should be fired immediately for his mishandling

of the two plays prior to the 2 minute warning. Throwing the balls before the two minute warning, stopping the clock and gaining no yardage.
RUN THE MOTHER frickING FOOTBALL AND EVEN WITH THE GRAMMATICA MISS THE VIKINGS HAVE JUST A LITTLE OVER A MINUTE TO TRY TO DRIVE FOR THE WINNING POINT.
2ND DOWN WITH 2:13 LEFT. RUN THE frickING BALL. TWO MINUTE WARNING. 3RD DOWN, RUN THE frickING BALL. TAKE ABOUT 45 SECONDS OFF THE CLOCK (AT LEAST). THEN TRY A FG FROM A FEW YARDS CLOSER.

Hell the Vikings almost mismanaged it enough to overcome.....but you are right. Payton should be an OC, he has ZERO idea about game/clock management. And WTF was that GD onside kick about.

he should be fired...but, not just for this game. For the last two years. He needs to go back to being an OC. Then, when he tries to do something stupid, the head coach can remind him that he's a freakin' moron.

so he runs it and 9 seconds run off to the 2 minute warning. then they throw an incompletion on 3rd down and the vikings use no timeouts and you are basically in the exact same position.
except you only gave yourself one legitimate chance to pick up the first down as opposed to two. i agree with payton.

So how would that have helped Gramatica make a field goal and prevented Minnesota from making one?

It kills the clock so that the vikings have less time to drive for a winning score. Plus, it probably gains a few yards which at that distance greatly increases fg percentage.
The game was TIED and the Saints were in FG range with a little over 2 minutes left and Payton finds a way to lose a game again. I'm just surprised that the fricker didn't try a double reverse again.
All this is besides the fact that it took Bush taking this team on this shoulders to overcome payton's ineptness.

Dude...I know you're upset at TDeacon but that post is spot on. That was a horrid clock mismanagement sequence. That should be published in a coaching manual for exactly what not to do. Probably not enough for the firing but absolutely the worse play calling for that situation.
