Still in the process of buying a new Xpress bay boat. 22' boat and they tell me the largest fuel tank they make is 30 or 32 gallons (can't remember which). I'm leaning towards the 150hp 4 stroke rather than the 200 based solely on fuel usage.

What do yall think? 30 gallon tank big enough to handle the requirements of the 200 HP motor without being nervous about making longer runs out from the landing?

TIA

1) how long of a run do you realistically plan to make in that boat?
2) a 200 on that thing will make it run like a pissed off cat

A normal run will be about 30 minutes one way... An extended run to a fishing location may be an hour one way...

You can look up performance bulletins for that exact boat on the Yamaha website:

Another good link with cool graphics:

Yamaha Perfomance

Well here's a performance date for your boat you are wanting.

So an hour run assuming you run at 4500 will burn approx 10 gallons or 1/3 of your tank.

And if you look on that site...they have a 19ft w a 150 that burns 8.8 gph at 4500 rpm. So not that big of a diff.

30 gal is on the small side but with the fuel economy of four strokes you should have plenty. I have a 50 gal tank on my blazer with a 150 two stroke and most I ever burned was 34 gallons on one trip whis was 108 miles total distance on GPS.

A 200 on that rig will fly as someone else said, If you can afford the upgrade than I'd go with 200 and not worry about a thing. after running a few times you will get a good feel for what your fuel burn is and how far you can run. Can always throw in a few 5 gal cans if needed. I carried one in my boat for the first month or so until I was comfortable with it.

I have a 200hp on my 19 foot bass boat. But I have a 48 gallon tank.

Your tank seems very small.

If your doing multiple day trips with a 30 gal tank, your gonna be refueling every day.

Pain in da arse...........

Im good for at least 4 days of hard running with my F-250 and 100 gal tank........

Where do you put an ice chest on an Xpress boat. Was looking at them but seems like thats an issue as well.

i have an H20B w/ a 115hp and 30 gallon tank. Having 60-80gal like most glass bay boats would be nice. I can go a good bit further than you would think especially keeping it at 4000-4500 rpms. In cocodrie this weekend, 2 runs to last island at 5000rpms from coco-marina area and i went through 1/2 tank or maybe a hair better

I have a 72qt between rod locckers with straps. I can fit a 48 or 52qt igloo between that and the center console. It also fits under your feet if you sit on the leaning seat. Other than that, you can strap it to the back deck by the splash well. This is a downfall of having the fuel tank in the bilge and not in the hull. It causes the back deck to be so large that there is no room for a cooler under the leaning seat
