...And the guy hunting with the recurve considers that the only actual hunting, and guys who shoot compounds are pussies...

I saw that and all I could do was

I won't hate on him or the kill but posting it to show off is sad. I'm embarrassed for him

Even a compound is way more challenging than scope hunting with HPRs. Not even close. And shooting a deer within 100yrds with one is basically it walking up to you and slitting its own throat.

And pussies that do shite like that consider themselves "hunters". Lol, no you're a clown.

I wouldn't shoot or post those deer, but if it makes him happy and it's not at my place I'm glad for him.

Dude was seriously looking to assault some animules though. I bet he has a full bandolier on under that jacket

I agree, I was just alluding to the if you don't do it my way, it's not real hunting crowd.

People who hunt on paid ranches say high fence hunting isn't real hunting.
People who hunt leases say guided hunts aren't real hunting.
People who scout and hunt deer sign say people who hunt pipelines isn't hunting.
People who hunt pipelines say hunting over feed isn't hunting.
People who use crossbows say rifle hunting isn't real hunting
People using compound bows say crossbow and rifle hunting isn't real hunting.
...and the road goes on forever...

I'm not gonna cheer for the guy just because he was in rough terrain and public land. Those are young deer. Anyone that has spent a fair amount if time in the woods knows that young deer are stupid. Hell, half the time you cant run them off. Also, many leases have more hunters per acre than public land does and more consistent pressure.

For the handful of hunts I am able to make a year I dont want to be sitting there with the deer looking at me at 70 yards and me not be able to do anything. So yea guess I am one of those pussies.

ANd no I would diff not post that pic nor would I shoot those deer. Only deer I shoot are wall hangers, culls and does, least try to anyway.

Me either but I don't think he did any real damage. Big swamp deer are few and far between so chances are that deer wouldn't amount to much. If something like that was shot on purpose at my place I wouldn't be too happy.

When I am shooting for the freezer I pick out the smallest deer in the group. As long as it does not have spots I'm good.

It's true though. They don't have the nutrition to be able to grow

I understand that the biggest buck in the swamp won't compare to the one laid up in a corn field. But every few years when you see somebody kill a 4.5-5 year old deer in the swamp it's never a pencil horned spike.
ETA: the punch line...it's one you can be PROUD OF

Marsh deer yes, swamp deer rarely make it past spike status before some coonass gets trigger happy

I know I'm just saying even if you pass on deer like that, there's not much chance of it becoming a wall-hanger. I wouldn't shoot it on purpose, but I doubt he killed something that was going to be great for the gene pool

I have to disagree about swamp deer. Back home before it turned into little NewO there were some damn big deer killed in the swamps around there. There are still some brutes they are just now in peoples backyards and in areas where the yats will get you arrested. Also there are some damn fine deer north of the basin bridge is you can find them.

Case in point.
