This will be my first winter with my chocolate lab. I built a roof over his head and layed a cement slab. What else can I do to make him comfortable for this winter?

Let him sleep in your bed...

My border collie sleeps on the front porch on a dog bed. In the summer she just sleeps in the yard or where ever is coolest. Just give him a place to get out of the north wind, stay dry, and put a dog bed or old blanket for him to lay on. If they are dry they are warm.

I wouldn't mind letting him sleep in the house, but the wife is allergic to animal dander.

keep him outside except for when the wind chill temperature is below 40.. He should be fine with that... put him in the spare bathroom so the wife doesn't swell up...

My wife brings ours in the utility room when it gets below 35. All she does is whine to go back out.

Go to local feed store, get sqare bale of hay. Spread it all inside its dog house and around it. My labs love it, they will roll all in the hay and it keeps them very warm. And after they are done playing in it they will make them a little nest in the house in it and sleep. Great insulation

Unless it is in the 20s our chess would rather be outside in the winter, in the summer she can't wait to get insiide.

Our GSP, well if it is below 60 or above 65 he wants to be inside- unless there are cats, squirells, rabbits, goats, birds, frogs(yes frogs), dogs, deer, coons, opossums or other vermin in our yard.

When it snowed the chessie ran around the neighborhood with all thte kiddos was probably the best non Hunting day of her life! Still get a kick out of one of my neighbors comments - your chocolate lab isn't bothered by this cold like the other ones are - she had a blanket of snow on her back - and then jumped in a pool.....my son just said that ain't a lab...and this kind of weather is like mardi GRAS for her....

More than anything I bring my dogs in at night to keep peace with neighbors....their cats come through my yard at night chessie and gsp use great teamwork in subdueing the invaders......

put something on top of the cement to keep him from getting rough spots on his legs. I keep my black and tan outside until it gets below 25 or so (hey, she has a shed) and even then she dosn't really care to go indoors. She's a ground tracker from Tennessee, so snow is her favorite.

I built my lab a house that wind can't get into and put a light in it. I went outside to feed him this morning and he was laying in the grass.

Last year on one cold morning, I let him out but forgot to close the pool gate and he went for a swim. Most dogs don't mind the cold near as much as we do.

My labs are outside dogs, i went out about 9 last night to trow the duck toy with them and pet them, after i was done they jumped in the swimming pool and splashed around , these dogs are a different breed than those little lap dogs
