I had a very similar experience with a big logger head crossing hwy 28 several years ago. We pulled over on opposite side of the road at the same time, turtle in between us, we had a mexican stare off, I made a break for the turtle and snatched the tail right before he got there. Chunked him in the bed and hauled arse.

Same shite happened to me over a big rattlesnake on Hwy 167 around Dodson. I was backing up the shoulder because I had a trailer behind my truck, another guy whipped around through the median and beat me to it. About that time, an old man ran over the snake's head killing it.
The other guy cut the rattles off and gave to my kid but took the snake home to eat.

A Bobcat got hit less than a mile from my house a couple of weeks before Christmas. I passed it on the way dropping my daughter off at school. On the way back home, some Cornbread-fed fella was tossing it in the back of his SuperDuty.
