Where to buy buffalo for rice farming - Paging Jimbeam

I'm trying to find who sells the tractor implement called a "Buffalo". They're very common in SWLA but I can't find them online anywhere. Does anyone know who sells them in the Lake Arthur-Welsh area?

Hughes welding in Jennings sells them. I'm pretty sure they have a website with pics.

Water buffalo. just looked them up and "technically" everyone else calls them stubble rollers apparently. How big of one are you looking for?
Yeah most fab shops in SWLA either have them, could make them, or tell you who's selling a used one. I've seen small ones on LA sportsman

Thanks Fellas
The largest one I can pull with a 75hp Kubota 4x4. What size buffalo do you think I can handle with that size tractor?
Needs to be hydraulic.

They're called Snake Killers around here. Not sure Ive seen one small enough for a 75hp tractor to pull. They're pretty big.

I just looked at the one they had online and I'm pretty sure that's going to be too much weight for my tractor to pull

They're not super hard to pull, but we're usually pulling with a 250 or 400hp Deere Maybe a 6 or 8 footer really not sure. It mainly depends on how nasty the field is

What is the purpose of this type of implement....is it used to chop stubble on dry ground or is the point to bury stubble so it will rot?
Posted on 9/17/17 at 12:49 pm to Spankum
We mainly use it to smash ruts after harvest to make it easier on the plow and tractor.

I'll be using it to knock down vegetation to make a pond for teal ducks.

Can't you just disc it? That's what the rice farmers out here do to make a clean water spot.

We made one out of 12 inch pipe and some angle iron. Take some 6x2 angle and weld it on the pipe. We welded a angle on each end with hole in it and made an axle for it with small wheels. Does pretty good behind four wheeler to knock grass down.
Ill see if I can find a picture

Could also maybe mow it low if it's dry. We make our teal ponds by just cutting right on the ground with our combine.

I've got one sitting in the barn but you ain't pulling it with a 75 horse.

Yeah, sometimes they even put water in them to add weight.

You hunt this weekend?
Yeah we have 2 that we pull behind the side by sides but they aren't getting the job done. Thus I'm looking one for the tractor.

We want video's of when you stick that tractor and then try to pull it out.

We call them snake charmers. I'm not a rice farmer, but our neighbors are and they run theirs in the mud to flatten out combine ruts and it's supposed to help deteriorate the stubble.

They call them roller choppers in South Texas. They usually pull with a bulldozer or one of those huge 8 wheeled beast articulating tractors.
