But I don't think he lived there permanently. He was the Harbor master. I think he had a house in Port Sulphur or somewhere in lower plaquemines parish. He didn't die in Katrina though. His brother did.

I visit chandaleur islands on a regular basis for fishing so do a lot of people. Not exactly barren. My idea of remote is if something were to happen how long would you be stranded before someone found you chandaleur u may wait a week until u could get someone's attention at worst.

My sentiments exactly. That actually takes the beach at South Pass out too. Build a fire, wave around a stick, a crew boat will pass either going offshore or fishermen.
I think looking at "remote" through this lense changes a few of the submissions. Middle of Maurepas may get my vote.
