Around prairieville.

Been wanting to get a few for the pond. Figured Easter would be an excuse to get a few and excite the kids

Do you have large bass in the pond? If so, get adult ducks.

I don't know where to get any.

Wasn't gonna turn them loose into the pond until they got bigger. I don't know shite about ducks. I'll probably kill them and my kids will cry for weeks

My husband ordered 12 mallards from Metzer farms in California. They overnight new hatchlings. You can order different species. Many feed stores just have like a field run, but you may get lucky and find what you need. We thought a couple might die in shipping, but 12 healthy ducks arrived in a small box. We have a 1 acre pond for them once they leave the brooder. We also ended up taking in 5 tiny hatchlings that were abandoned at our neighbors so now we have 17 in the brooder and they are disgusting. It is cute for about4 total days. Right now they are draining 2 gallons of water within 3 hours. Emptying probably 6-8 cups of food in same period. I give them a tub to swim in and they bathe and shake and clean until it's empty. I would not do this for cute factor. Husband and daughter wanted to add to the small flock that goes from our pond to neighbors pond and I can't wait to release them. I have been tempted to start chucking them at the bigger ducks swimming in my backyard several times.

Be aware that they should not be released until about 6 weeks old. Messy is an understatment. I released 3 this week and it was time. Got 7 eggs in incubator now. Will keep a couple and let a friend take the rest. Have 20 now in pond. That a will be it till next year. Ducks are NOT an Easter gift(rabbits or chicks either). They are a commitment to a living creature.

Caught some when I was a teenager visiting the grandparents on the land I now live on.

Way out here past the boonies wasn't much to do during the week long, or more, annual Summer visit. Would get up before the Sun to go fish with grandad, then after that was lazy time. So one day my sister was laying out working on her tan and she called me over to check out what was rustling the tall weeds across the fence in the neighbor's pasture with a pond. Finally spotted a mama duck headed for the pond with a couple babies following.

Called grandad over and he sent sis off to get a big cardboard box while he grabbed a 5 gall. bucket. We hopped the fence and caught the babies, about 8-10 of them. A Muscovy/Domestic cross breeding apparently. Mama duck was mad as hell and hung around 2-3 days chasing us and us chasing her.

BTW, that nasty messy liquid poop of a bird? Yeah, ducks will turn that butt around and use it as a pretty accurate weapon.

Grandad built a waist high small pen out of 2x4's and chicken wire and that winter and the next few we had plenty of young duck to eat without getting our feet wet. Decided it was time to get rid of them when the snakes started coming around. Had the biggest copperhead grandad ever saw in his then 70-ish years poke his head around the corner of the coop/pen when he and I were burning trash one day. I was leaning back against the coop at the time and that 6' copperhead was only a few inches from my ankle. Yep, time for the ducks to go.
