Bought a house last summer with pretty extensive landscaping in Baton Rouge. I realize now I need a shite load of mulch.

Any advice on how not to spend $1000's on pre rotted dirt?

Got any neighbors with pine trees? Offer to rake there yards and one pine straw instead.

Any lumber mills around you? We have a cypress mill in Ponchatoula, and they sell cypress mulch for about $20 a yard, delivered.

If you need enough I am sure they will deliver (assuming dumped in front yard).

I can fit 2 yds in my pickup bed (6 ft long) but don't take the interstate or you will lose a bunch and try to keep it under 40.

Plantech near barringer foreman and jefferson is $38.15 a scoop for the brown stuff. A scoop is about a yard. Didn't ask about the colored stuff.

Watch out if you buy bags, some mulch is treated with a herbicide and it is not recommended for edible vegetables.
