When you buy a gun, does it bother you to take the display one?

I know it's fine but the floor model is just not new to me. I want the one in the box. If that's all they have and they don't come off the price on it I won't take it. Anyone else like this? Am I unreasonable?

Not unreasonable unless it's discontinued or limited. Just ask them to order you one

I was at academy a few weeks ago and was going to buy a VP9. They only had one left and it was the display. I had a nick in the finish on the slide. Small but it was there. I asked for a discount and the manager said he would live to but couldn't.

I left with an S&W shield instead.

If it's a box store and they won't discount a display, I won't buy it.

I don't think I've ever bought a gun locally and not got the one that was out. Firearms take up a lot of overhead and demand for certain guns is so wishy washy I would be shocked if there was a dealer that carried 2 or more of every gun in the store. Not to mention some popular guns are hard to get so a dealer may only have received one from his rep if he was lucky.

When I bought my SX3 from Sportmans Warehouse, I asked for a new in the box. I spent $1000, I wanted new.
When I got my Shield, it was a a local store. They went to the back and got one in the box without me asking.

I can't remember a time that I actually had to get the display instead of a new one in box, except for a very specialized SBR that Lafayette Shooters had on display.

Nothing like that new gun in box feel

You sure about that? My son is in the industry and for 99% of what they carry the displays are not the only one they have.

this.

I'm pretty sure Carson could give you a good est. They have the computer system for a reason, and not just looking at the shelf.

Depends on what it is. You want an 870, yeah, they probably have a few in the back. You want something very specific, like a high dollar 1911 or something, they likely only have one.

I usually don't take the display but, if I want the model, I feel it up and it has no scratches, etc., then I take it. I did that twice this year and never had done that before. One was a Ruger 10/22 takedown and the other was an SnW 1911 TA e Series. Both were on sale and that helped me pull the trigger on them. Once I got them home and wiped them down I was satisfied.......

A gun store is different than a big box score.

Gun store I don't care. Big box store I want it new.

we order about 50 of the big selling shotguns (A400, A5, etc) and 20 of the popular ARs each offseason. Lots of different calibers of hunting rifles. Keep somewhere in the teens for big handgun movers, and 1-2 of specialty stuff like Legion Sigs, Noveske ARs, Cooper rifles, or whatever.

if we're being honest here, any time i know that the display is the last one in stock, ill take it in the back, find the box, wipe it down with a silicone cloth, wrap it up perfectly as if it were from the factory, and sell it. nobody ever knows
