What's the largest motor you would feel comfortable with on an 18' aluminum

bass boat?
On the way home from the camp this morning, I hop on the interstate at the sorrento exit headed back to God's country/Prairieville. Between there and hwy44 I pass ole baw with an 18' Express with a cheek flapping 250 Yami hanging off the back of it. There's not a snowballs chance in hell I'd step foot in that thing. My Ranger rt188 has a 115 on it and weighs more than the express. I'll admit I'd like to hang a 150 on it but got damn that's retarded.

You shouldn't judge the size of another mans unit just cause yours isn't as big.

Might have been an x19.

A guy in Chackbay has one with a 250 flashed to a 300. Seen him take off 7 boats behind me in a tourney and pass up glass boats in the intercoastal with 250s and 300s and me with my little 115sho...

Natty's boat was stupid fast! Le Bateau Rouge baw.

It's a flashed 200 SHO and he posts here sometimes. That boat will run close to 90. I been in it and it is a bad arse setup.

If it was truly an 18' that the OP saw...that bitch is overpowered even with a 200. If it had a SHO on the back, the 200, 225 and 250 cowlings fit one another.

IWNRII but IWDI

I have some footage I need to edit. Only been about 5 times since the flood. Took 3rd in a tourney last weekend. I can find them eventually but I am not on anything right now. Heading to the Bend week after next looking for a DD.

My dad has a 195 Tracker which is 18'7"

It has a 150 on it

I couldn't imagine needing anymore power. It goes 60mph+ easy

The plate on the transom will tell you the max HP for the boat. Never ever exceed it. One accident and you will pay for it the rest of your life.

I swear I'm gonna be more diligent this year about my trips down to BR and being sure to bug you for a ride in your boat.

Never had the need to go that fast. My buddy goes wide open with a slight chop on the water and it feels like we are about to go airborn.

On an unrelated noted: I just bout a new life jacket.

Hate to sound like everyone's mother, but yall always wear your lifejackets and you dont need to go that damn fast! Steering cable breaks or you hit something under the water at 70, and you're in for real trouble.

ETA-old age and children has made me a sissy.

Yup, that would be me
But like CBR said its a flashed 200 sho. It has 90mph (GPS) in it but I havent tried to push it to the limits yet.

I totally agree. I wear mine every night fishing trip. The new one I ordered will be on me everytime we run.

There were a couple boats in an accident about a month ago on lake alatoona in GA. 2 guys died, 1 survived. I read where the guy who survived reported that they were all alive right after the crash, clinging to their boats.

And after seeing the video of the two UF guys who were just cruising along to their spot...and then boom, broken steering cable-just a freak deal that you have a lot better chance of being ok after if you're wearing your life jacket.

my 17.5ft has a 40hp and its way fast enough to scare you at times.

most I would have the balls to put on a flatboat would be:

19ft = 80-90hp
18ft = 70-80hp
17ft = 60-70hp

as I said, I have a 40hp on my 17.5ft and wish I had put a 50-60hp on it but over 40hp gets very pricey fast
