What reel would you put on this rod?

LINK

8 foot. Heavy fast action. I plan on using it for snapper and shallow rig fishing. I'm just confused as to what size reel. It's probably 7/8 " thick at the reel seat but overall because of the length it doesn't come off as a typical offshore pole.

Kind of an odd rod for anything.

Why not the matching Wright & McGill reel?

would be more fun for snapper than the "broom sticks" some people use.
get a reel that matches the rods max line weight

They don't sell the reel there and I don't like the notion of buying it without trying the action on it. I was thinking shimano bait feeder?

The link calls it an inshore rod, so that may help. If it's going to be used for snapper, I would check out the Shimano Bait Runner reels. I just got a Thunnus in yesterday, it'll be used for light/med offshore.

I would probably go with a 4000, maybe a 6000 if you want to size up.

For snapper I'd put at least a 6 or 8k reel on it.

can't go wrong with that reel...load it up with some braid and you are ready to go...

oh...that rig makes a great mangrove rig as well and when a cobia shows up you've got something you can throw at them as well...

For shallow water stuff and without actually seeing the rod, and given the fact that it's an inshore rod, an 8000 will be way too big. I think a 6000 would be too, but it would probably be closer.

ETA: If you go Bait Runner, consider the Thunnus. It's more expensive by about $100, but it's lighter. Also, the gearing is supposed to be heavier duty.
