Honda Rubicon! All around good bike. Plenty of power and rides great!

We have always ran Hondas on our farm and never had a bit of trouble out of them except for getting stolen every now and then. Both of our local CO-OPs have tried every brand and now only run Hondas. They use them for doing grid soil sampling. Neither of the store managers were pleased with the performance of the Polaris machines.

I've owned about seven "bikes" most Honda but the reason they don't beak is because they have no power. Least bike was a can am. Never will go back to a Honda

Have a 94 fourtrax that will start on the first try. Also have a 05 rancher that is the same way. Doesn't matter if it's 115* or 15*. Both have plenty of power to pull our 12' and 16' trailers loaded with wood up and down the hills in MS.
I bought a Kawi Brute force for playing in the mud. Worst decision I have ever made. Complete piece of crap.
If you want a utility 4 wheeler, Honda.
If you want to play, CanAm.
Polaris doesn't do either well.
That being said, my next toy will be a Polaris Ranger. They are the tits when it comes to SxS.

Honda without any doubt. Run them hard on our farm every day of the year. Last forever, run great.

I'm sure a Honda 800 would have plenty power...
They don't break because they are well designed.

To the OP. It all depends what you expect out of the bike and how you use it. I have a very old Bayou 220 that still runs great. No work ever on it and it is a 1990 other then a couple sets of tires and batteries. I still use it at times, but those cold or cold rainy morning just suck when you have a few miles to ride. frick THAT shite!
Reason I said a jeep is that you can find a Jeep Cherokee for a couple grand. Add a liftkit and some new tires all for under 4K. Have something you can put on the road or the woods and go everywere all these new big arse bikes go.
Another thing. The bigger the bike, the easyer to get stuck. Good things about smaller bikes is that they can go around shite and if you get stuck, a lot easyer to get out.

your wrong. Go ride a honda 500 then ride a can am 500. Same reason the old toyota trucks didnt break. Easy to make stuff reliable when it doesnt have power. Go to highlifter.com and ask around. Honda is known for the weakest bikes out.

Anything used for under $5k what would you get? Are Hondas what they used to be? I'm looking for something mainly for getting to and from stand while deer hunting. I hunt in the hills around port gibson, steep fricking hills.
for the best under 5k you should buy my 06 grizzly 660 4x4. Let me know if you are interested.

Go find some, sit on them, ride them if they'll let you. You cannot really go wrong with any of the 'Big 6 (Honda, Yamaha,Suzuki, Polaris, Can-Am, Arctic Cat)
Once you've found one you like, do your homework, different models from all manufactures have had problems at different times, so make sure you know what you're buying. Sounds like you need something in the mid size range, 400-500cc with selectable 4x4. 5,000 should be more than enough to get something capable and still in good condition.

If it were me, I would get a bare bones Honda. No electric shift or power steering BS. I used to have a recon 250 2wd and that thing could almost go through as much mud as the bigger bikes. Never had a problem with it at all.
After that, we got a Rubicon with the ES. I absolutely hate relying on the ES to do the job. I had a buddy that had one, and had to shift it with a wrench for a while

I'm looking at an 07 foreman 500 4x4. Anybody have positives or negatives?
Posted on 7/23/12 at 11:14 am to Rebman601
I have a 07 Honda Rincon, thing is unstoppable. While hunting in Virginia a couple of years ago, I was climbing up the side of a large hill in the dark. I had never hunted the land before so I wasn’t sure where I was going, hit a large tree stump and rolled the machine several times. Only had to replace headlights, no other damage. I will always own a Honda.
