I have the Ocean Kayak prowler 13 and wouldn't change it for any of my friends kayaks. It tracks well, is durable, about the right size and weight for me, plenty of storage, and very versatile. I'm not an expert on kayaks by any means, but I am very happy with my purchase.

I love my Jackson Cuda 12. I don't know that I would trade it for any other kayak. I don't care to deal with all the extras of a pedal kayak. I can stand & fish with no problem and it's easy enough to load after fishing all day.

Had a PA12. With the cart, it wasn't bad to do anything. Getting it in a truck bed wasn't a huge issue. Getting it on the roof of a vehicle.....not happening by yourself or without anotice expensive roof rack system. I ended up with a trailer. Then realized it was getting to be more effort then my flats boat.

As far as fishing. It was very comfortable and easy to stand it. Difficult to paddle since it's so wide, but no need with the mirage drive.

What are you using to haul?

If you're planning to use the bed of a pickup or a trailer, get the PA14 and never look back. As has been mentioned, cartopping a PA is something that would get old quick.

I had a trailer before I had a truck and it was pretty easy to load/unload the PA using either method.

I've tried going back to paddling several times but there are just so many advantages to having a pedal drive...

If looking at the 12vs the 14, get the 14. Tracks straighter and easier to steer. I owned a 12 after having a 14 and it didn't take long before it was up for sale. Sure, the 14 adds a few #'s, but the difference isn't that much and it doesn't matter once you're in the water.

How hard is the PA14 to load/unload?

It's not bad. It is heavy. I just slide it out of my truck when I am launching it with my cart attached and thenload it back in the truck with the cart attached. I just lift the front of the PA14 on my bed extender and work my way to the back of the kayak and pick it up and slide it into the truck. I have a rolling kayak stand at the house that is the height of my truck bed so loading and unloading isn't an issue.

I think the small propane outboards would be awesome. that way you can carry a few extra tanks if you want to go far or out for a few days.

I helped a friend with his Hobie during ride the bull. Honestly, if that's all there were in kayaks, I'd just stick to boat fishing. YMMV obviously because those things are popular.

Ive always wanted a Native Ultimate. Seems like a stable kayak that would be great for sight-fishing redfish and good in a lot of fishing scenarios. I don't think paddling far distances would be too fun in one though.

I used to camp from my kayak more often and really wanted the Ultimate. It seems like it would be perfect for hauling a bunch of camping gear. Like you said though, probably not the best for paddling all day. I do that way more than camping now.

I've used Mung's Commander(similar to Ultimate) instead of my sit ons for a few trips and it really was not that different. I like that I have both types at my disposal, for now.

That's what they have on the nucanoe YouTube video...seemed nice..wonder what the run time is for one canister?

Those motors are expensive though, 1600 for a 2.5hp..

If money was no issue, I'd test a PA 14. I might be headed that way but I'm very excited about my new yak. 4 years ago bought a Pelican Castaway 116, 6 months later got an ascend 128t, and over Christmas got a KC.

I think the big question is what you want to do. I want to sight fish reds in skinny water so the KC with a tm is Cadillac'n to me. Having never used one, the depth a mirage drive requires is a slight issue.

I've spent a lot of time in an ultimate 14 and a decent amount in the ultimate 12. They are a breeze to paddle. I think they're the most versatile boat out there and really their only deficiency is surf launching since you don't have scuppers.

I've shot squirrels and ducks from one and fished everything from small rocky rivers to redfish ponds to toledo bend and just about every thing in between. If you're looking for a do-everything outdoor paddle craft, look no further than the ultimate. The storage capacity is unbeatable for camping too.

Agreeing with Coco on the Ultimate/Hybrid platform.

I have only ever had a Commander 120 and dont think I could purpose a traditional SOT the way I can with it.

The depth and general size of the rear tankwell can hold dozens of duck decoys and gear, along with the entire cockpit being open.
