la hunting license, big game license, archery license if bow hunting, WMA yearly hunting permit and you need to sign in at the check in/check out station whenever you're on the WMA.
OR you can get a lifetime license and be done with it. but you still have to check in and out at the check in station.

All the licenses and permits can be purchased online through the dept of wildlife and fisheries website or in person at most hunting and fishing stores (academy, bass pro, bowie). There are also some other random places that sell them.
The check in/check out stations are located in various places on the WMAs. The dept of wildlife and fisheries website has maps online that show their locations. You will very likely get ticketed if you're on a WMA without the check in/out tag. But it's free so you really don't have an excuse for not signing in.

Oh that being said, a couple of the WMAs don't require you to check in or out as they are boat accessible only. Check the LA hunting regulations for special rules at each WMA, as some of them do not follow the same hunting seasons as the surrounding area or have different rules for hunting.

He gave you great advice. Game wardens on wma's (tensas is notorious) will definitely be checking the entrances and exits for proper paperwork.
Get a compass and use it. If you hunt Tensas, keep in mind it's 75,000 acres of hardwood river bottom jungle. I got lost walking in there one time... compass brought me to freedom.

make sure your 4 wheeler tires meets regs.

Yea, and if you are using your 4 - wheeler on wma's, you need the state issued sticker on it to be legal don't you? Always use my cousins, and he gets it every year.

No they don't issue stickers, make sure your wheels/tires/lugs are per regs. State and Federal area's have different regulations, make sure you are familiar with the regs of which ever you hunt.

i would rather not hunt than hunt a WMA. Wardens are out there just looking to nail you with something. No matter how much you prepare and do your due diligence, they will find something. Good luck.

Don't listen to TYGAH. You can have a very enjoyable experience on public ground for deer if you have your expectations correct before venturing out on your hunt. Scout hard, and if you see a deer on public ground due to your preparation, consider it a good hunt. And get as far away from roads as you possibly can

if hunting a WMA for the first time, it's good to go on a scouting trip or two. You can not only get a lay of the land but get a feel for which parts are more heavily hunted than others and find some less crowded areas. I haven't hunted WMAs since college but there are some good ones in north LA if you put the time in to learn the area. Weekdays are obviously better too.

Your life insurance premiums are paid in full and you have a valid will.

Is it really that bad out there? Tons of jackasses with no safety sense?
Posted on 10/13/15 at 7:37 am to Jambo
It all depends on where you go. I was taken aback when my son and I went dove hunting on Sherburne, and the dove field was surrounded by deer hunters in ground blinds. Needless to say, we did not feel very safe so we left.

It's totally dependent on the day you go and the area you're in. If it's opening day of the season (any season, squirrel, duck, deer, whatever) there are going to be more hunters in the woods than animals to hunt. Same with Thanksgiving weekend and any open gun dates around Christmas. And yes some of them are jackasses with no safety sense.
That being said, if you wear your orange (or have a bright light on you if you're walking in in the dark), you should be fine. Millions of hunts are made every year safely, and far, far more injuries (or deaths) come from people falling out of tree stands or rolling their 4 wheelers. shite happens. But personally I enjoy hunts more if there aren't a bunch of coonasses all around me, so I pick my days and areas carefully to avoid the crowds.

We mainly hunt WMAs both state and federal - I have been checked once in the last 5yrs and didn't have any issues.
