That's why I went the semi custom route and bought a new boat. Trying to find a used boat was, to me, a pain in the arse. I'm gonna write a book about the experience. Every person I called about used boats on LA Sportsman had a story. Some good, some sad, some funny.

I agree. The only thing they could have done would be to say from the beginning if someone shows up with money before you get qualified we'll have to sell it. If its a good deal to you forget about it and get the boat. Congrats!

I'd politely let them know that not keeping their word wasted your time and caused undue aggravation, and then ask them if they're willing to make up for it (reduce the price).
Upon them making good, you'll buy the boat and THEN you'll take down the Facebook post once the deal is done. (burn me once shame on you...twice...shame on me)

If you wanted a boat held you should have walked in there and given them a $100 goodwill deposit. I sell equipment and we hold no used equipment w/o a deposit. I'm sure they've been told before "I'm coming Friday to buy that boat" and never hear from the customer again. You need to walk in there, buy the boat and thank them for holding the boat so long on just your word.

I feel like its on the seller to set the terms. In this case, seller was fine with no deposit.

They should have never told you that they would hold the boat. Everyone damn well knows that any kind of car or boat dealership would sell it to the first person with money in hand.
You should know have known that and put some sort of deposit on the boat. Having said that, they did lie to you.
To me. It's all about trust. If I know a business is lying to me about something then I simply will not do business with them. What else would they lie about? Do you plan on using them in the future for service?

I agree, they should have let him know upfront and not told him they'd hold it. But if he wanted it that bad, give them $100 and no worries!

No, I will not use them for service. I think at this time it's best to do the deal and walk away.

So many people get so emotional with a merchant....you wanted the boat, you got the boat, be happy and whistle on down there and buy the boat(unless they find a guy willing to pay more between now and then!)
I don't do facebook, but I wouldn't give it a second thought....if what you put down is true, you owe them no favors to coverup their poor behavior..

You aren't in the wrong. They messed up, whether that's the reason they are coming clean or not, it doesn't matter at this point.
Now the question is, whether you actually take the post down or not. Feel them out when you buy. See if they seem sincere and go with your gut

If you didn't put a deposit down and they sold it, no wrong was done on their part. They are in the business of selling and people say stuff just like you did and back out all the time.
As for yourself, as long as you told the truth you are always correct. However it was nice of them to blackout of the other deal.

They made it right AFTER you posted what you did.
If no deal had been made, then nothing would've ever been "corrected". They know they messed up, but nobody figured you'd slam them publicly about it. (the typical boat buyer isn't an avid internet reviewer / complainer)
You did right IMO, and they'll remember that moving forward. They shouldn't make deals and not hold their word.
I would've bought one somewhere else and posted about it probably.
