Sounds pretty cool, however I wouldn't be the test subject on a first year model engine. If you really need more towing capacity why get a compact truck?

Agreed, but some want a small diesel for light towing and (presumed)longevity.
Plus, full-size diesels are well into the $50Ks, so there will be a cost benefit here.

Hope these models turn out well, will love to see Toyota suffer for being ignorant of the times.
Remember a post on TacomaWorld a few months ago after the '16 model was revealed without any expectations of a diesel option in the future. The poster actually received an email back from a Toyota exec. and was told that in the U.S., diesel options are too hard to design to meet EPA regulations and that they didn't think they could sell that many diesel Tacomas.
Although my personal preference will probably be going from my Tacoma to a 1/2-ton diesel option. Toyota will probably be revamping their engine options after they starting losing sales to GM with this garbage Lexus 3.5 they are putting in the new Tacoma.

As much as I like GMC's

You rang?? About 256k on my 06 Ridgeline.
I looked at the Canyon yesterday, and can't see $28k for a 2 wheel drive midsize and $35 for 4x4. A canyon with a diesel will be over $40 I imagine. I will just keep driving my 06.

Last week I got a Colorado crew cab, long bed with the V6. Really like it.
It tows more than my 2003 Silverado with the small v8, gets better mileage, handles and rides better, etc.
The old one is still a good truck at 242k miles so I passed it on to my son.
I have no need for the deisel, but it should be a good option for some.

2 wheel or 4 wheel drive? What did you have to give for it?

2wd, LT, convinience package, towing package. Had to pay almost 29k. Msrp was 31k. The long beds were hard to find in a crew cab, and they don't come down much with the limited supply.
